This study optimizes immunofluorescence techniques using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to improve visualization of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in gill tissue. Two types of AuNP dispersions, stabilized in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and citrate buffer (CB), were evaluated for their imaging performance. AuNPs suspended in PBS provided significantly better optical contrast due to uniform distribution and effective tissue attachment, whereas citrate-suspended AuNPs exhibited aggregation, resulting in reduced contrast.

Background: Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS) is a very rare disease that causes starvation and malnutrition secondary to a mechanical obstruction of the 3 portion of the duodenum between the superior mesenteric artery and aorta. Long-term outcomes following surgery for SMAS by current methods have a high failure rate of 21%-67%. Liquid crystals with high dielectric anisotropy, low operational thresholds, and significant birefringence (Δ) represent a key focus in soft matter research. This work introduces a novel series of hydrogen-bonded liquid crystals (HBLCs) derived from 4-n-alkoxybenzoic, 4-alkoxy-3-fluorobenzoic derivatives (nOBAF), 4-alkoxy-2,3-fluorobenzoic derivatives (nOBAFF), and 2-fluoro-4-nitrobenzoic acid. Surgical palliative care (PC) facilitates communication between surgeons and patients/family about prognosis, symptom control, and therapeutic goals. Objective: Feedback is critical for learning, however, gender differences exist in the quality of feedback that trainees receive. For example, narrative feedback on surgical trainees' end-of-block rotations differs based on trainee-faculty gender dyads, with female faculty giving higher quality feedback and male trainees receiving higher quality feedback. In the quest for optimal H evolution (HE) through ethanol photoreforming, a dual cocatalyst-modified heterocatalyst strategy is utilized. Tin(II) sulfide (SnS) was hybridized with α-FeO to form the heterocatalyst FeOSnS with a p-n heterojunction structure as confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-vis diffusive reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) techniques. In this article we show how spherical nanoparticles (NPs) imposing planar anchoring can strongly impact the viscoelastic, dielectric, and electro-optical properties of a nematic liquid crystal when they are not aggregated. We also demonstrate that when the NPs are magnetic, most nematic properties are more impacted than when they are nonmagnetic. With magnetic NPs a molecular disorder is induced that decreases the nematic order parameter, this decrease impacting the values of elastic constants, viscosity, and response time.
