The current study was designed to investigate the effect of eugenol on histopathological changes and oxidative stress caused by torsion/detorsion in the ovary of adult female rats. In this study, forty-eight female Wistar rats were classified into six groups; Sham and 2 healthy group receiving 30, 60 mg/kg eugenol; ovarian torsion/detorsion; and 2 experimental groups receiving 30, 60 mg/kg eugenol. After ten days, the plasma levels of oestrogen, testosterone, and some oxidative stress markers were assessed.

Commercial disinfectants are routinely used to decontaminate surfaces where microbes are expected and unwelcome. Several disinfectants contain quaternary ammonium salts, or "quats", all being derived from ammonium. Quaternary alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride or bromide disinfectants are widely available.

To treat cancer, knowledge of mechanical parameters can be essential. This study proposes a new approach for estimating hydraulic conductivity (k) and hydraulic conductivity ratio (α) of a living tissue, based on inverse methods, allowing tissue parameter estimation using only a limited set of measurements. First, two population-based algorithms (Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) method and conjugate gradient (CG) method) and two gradient-based algorithms (genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm) are considered, and a comparative study between these different inverse methods is performed to determine which methods have a good performance in terms of convergence rate and stability.

Introduction: Vaccine delivery via a microneedle (MN) system has been identified as a potential alternative to conventional vaccine delivery. MN can be self-administered, is pain-free and is capable of producing superior immunogenicity. Over the last few decades, significant research has been carried out in this area, and this review aims to provide a comprehensive picture on the progress of this delivery platform.

The dimeric transporter, EmrE, effluxes polyaromatic cationic drugs in a proton-coupled manner to confer multidrug resistance in bacteria. Although the protein is known to adopt an antiparallel asymmetric topology, its high-resolution drug-bound structure is so far unknown, limiting our understanding of the molecular basis of promiscuous transport. Here we report an experimental structure of drug-bound EmrE in phospholipid bilayers, determined using F and H solid-state NMR and a fluorinated substrate, tetra(4-fluorophenyl) phosphonium (F-TPP).

Fresh vegetables are essential components of a healthy and nutritious diet, but if consumed raw without proper washing and/or disinfection, can be important agents of transmission of enteric pathogens. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of zoonotic parasites on vegetables freshly harvested and "ready to eat" vegetables from greengrocers and markets in northwestern Iran. In addition, the effect of cropping system and season on contamination levels were assessed as well as the efficacy of washing procedures to remove parasites from the vegetables.

During recent decades, researchers all around the world have focused on the characteristic pros and cons of the different drug delivery systems for cornea tissue change for sense organs. The delivery of various drugs for cornea tissue is one of the most attractive and challenging activities for researchers in biomaterials, pharmacology, and ophthalmology. This method is so important for cornea wound healing because of the controllable release rate and enhancement in drug bioavailability.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on the relationship between hyperuricemia (high uric acid levels) and the risk of developing hypertension (high blood pressure) using two calculation methods for population attributable risk (PAR).
  • It involved tracking 1,256 normotensive individuals over nearly 10 years, finding that those with elevated uric acid levels had a significantly higher rate of developing hypertension (44.7% vs. 35.6%).
  • The attributable risk of hyperuricemia in hypertension was identified as 9.1%, with PAR values of 6% and 5.8% from the two methods, demonstrating that hyperuricemia is an important independent risk factor for hypertension.

Simplified prediction of the interactions of plant tissue culture media components is of critical importance to efficient development and optimization of new media. We applied two algorithms, gene expression programming (GEP) and M5' model tree, to predict the effects of media components on in vitro proliferation rate (PR), shoot length (SL), shoot tip necrosis (STN), vitrification (Vitri) and quality index (QI) in pear rootstocks (Pyrodwarf and OHF 69). In order to optimize the selected prediction models, as well as achieving a precise multi-optimization method, multi-objective evolutionary optimization algorithms using genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) techniques were compared to the mono-objective GA optimization technique.

Here we reported a case of a 17-year-old man with a history of weakness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting and dark stool within the last three months prior to admission. He was taken to the Emergency Room in a state of shock. After resuscitation, vital signs became stable, but due to low hemoglobin (HB = 5 g/dl), to find the source of bleeding, endoscopy was performed and a mass in the duodenum was detected.

Inspired by natural surfaces such as butterfly wings, cactus leaves, or the plant, synthetic materials may be engineered to directionally transport liquids on their surface without external energy input. This advantageous feature has been adopted for various mechanical and chemical processes, fog harvesting, lubrication, lossless chemical reactions, Many studies have focused on the manipulation and transport of water or aqueous droplets, but significantly fewer have extended their work to low surface tension (LST) liquids, although these fluids are involved in numerous industrial and everyday processes. LST liquids completely wet most surfaces which makes spontaneous transportation an active challenge.

Purpose: Partial adrenalectomy (PA) is an emerging modality typically performed for the treatment of hereditary and sporadic bilateral tumors, to reduce the risk of adrenal failure. In this study, we evaluated the recurrence and functional outcomes after partial and total adrenalectomy (TA).

Materials And Methods: From March 2005 to July 2018, 284 patients with functional tumor or > 5 cm adrenal mass underwent clipless and sutureless laparoscopic partial or total adrenalectomy (PLA and TLA).

Bioavailable glutamine (Gln) is critical for metabolism, intestinal health, immune function, and cell signaling. Routine measurement of serum Gln concentrations could facilitate improved diagnosis and treatment of severe infections, anorexia nervosa, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and cancer. Current methods for quantifying tissue Gln concentrations rely mainly on HPLC, which requires extensive sample preparation and expensive equipment.

Advances in nanomedicine, including early cancer detection, targeted drug delivery, and personalized approaches to cancer treatment are on the rise. For example, targeted drug delivery systems can improve intracellular delivery because of their multifunctionality. Novel endogenous-based and exogenous-based stimulus-responsive drug delivery systems have been proposed to prevent the cancer progression with proper drug delivery.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is recognized as one of the most common, serious, and costly chronic diseases. Opium addiction is also a common health problem in Iran. Given the high prevalence of opium use in South Khorasan Province and the increasing prevalence of opioid abuse in the community, this study was performed to investigate the effect of opioid abuse on the extent of disease in diabetic patients undergoing coronary angiography in the cardiology department of Vali-e-Asr Hospital in Birjand city, South Khorasan Province, Iran.

In the past decades, the rapid growth of computer and database technologies has led to the rapid growth of large-scale medical datasets. On the other, medical applications with high dimensional datasets that require high speed and accuracy are rapidly increasing. One of the dimensionality reduction approaches is feature selection that can increase the accuracy of the disease diagnosis and reduce its computational complexity.

Microwave Ablation (MWA) is one of the most recent developments in the field of thermal therapy. This approach is an effective method for thermal tumor ablation by increasing the temperature above the normal physiological threshold to kill cancer cells with minimum side effects to surrounding organs due to rapid heat dispersive tissues. In the present study, the effects of the shape and size of the tumor on MWA are investigated.
