Background: Navigation surgical systems have been widely used in spinal fusion to ensure accuracy and safety during pedicle screw insertion.

Methods: The research was performed under laboratory conditions, using stereotactic navigation, surgical instruments for spinal fusion, development of additional devices and software. During the experiments, all stages of the computed tomography-guided navigation system use were performed-preoperative preparation of patient data and planning to provide visual control of the navigation of surgical instruments during the insertion of screws.

Article Synopsis
  • - Elys/Mel-28 is a nucleoporin (Nup) that connects decondensing chromatin with nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) after mitosis, but its role during interphase is unclear.
  • - Research using DamID-seq in Drosophila embryos identified different Elys binding sites within active or inactive chromatin, revealing its interaction with nucleoplasmic and NPC-linked forms.
  • - Knocking down Elys in S2 cells causes chromatin to move away from the nuclear envelope, leading to gene derepression, while also compacting active chromatin regions, suggesting Elys helps anchor peripheral chromatin to the nuclear envelope.

In the present study, we propose the use of swabs in non-lethal sampling procedures to collect the mucosa-adhered gut microbiota from the posterior intestine of fish, and therefore, we compare the bacterial communities collected by conventional scraping and by swabbing methods. For this purpose, samples of the posterior intestine of rainbow trout () were collected first using the swabbing approach, and after fish euthanasia, by mucosa scraping. Finally, bacterial communities were compared by 16S rRNA gene Illumina sequencing.

Microplastics (MPs) are emergent pollutants in freshwater environments and may impact aquatic organisms, including those of nutritional value. The specific activities of digestive and antioxidant enzymes can be used as good bioindicators of the potential effects of MPs on fish in case of waterborne MP contamination. In this study, we used fluorescent polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) to analyze the alterations in enzyme activities in larvae of Gmelin (peled or Northern whitefish), one of the most valuable commercial fish species of Siberia.

Introduction: The impact of parasites on gut microbiota of the host is well documented, but the role of the relationship between the parasite and the host in the formation of the microbiota is poorly understood. This study has focused on the influence that trophic behavior and resulting parasitism has on the structure of the microbiome.

Methods: Using 16S amplicon sequencing and newly developed methodological approaches, we characterize the gut microbiota of the sympatric pair of whitefish complex and the associated microbiota of cestodes parasitizing their intestine.

The performance of an anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer under various operational conditions (including voltage, KOH-supporting electrolyte concentration, and flow rate) is studied using conventional time-domain technics and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The water electrolyzer EIS footprint, depending on the variation in operational conditions, is studied and discussed, providing valuable data on the faradaic and non-faradaic processes in MEA, considering their contribution to the total polarization resistance. The distribution of the AEMWE cell voltage contributions is valuable to accessing the key directions in the system performance improvement.

The Argonne X-ray Emission Analysis Package (AXEAP) has been developed to calibrate and process X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) data collected with a two-dimensional (2D) position-sensitive detector. AXEAP is designed to convert a 2D XES image into an XES spectrum in real time using both calculations and unsupervised machine learning. AXEAP is capable of making this transformation at a rate similar to data collection, allowing real-time comparisons during data collection, reducing the amount of data stored from gigabyte-sized image files to kilobyte-sized text files.

The porous Hoffman-type 3D lattice Fe(pz)[Ni(CN)] exhibits thermally induced spin-crossover (SCO) behavior that is dependent on the solvent guest species occupying the pores. Here, in situ Fe K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and both non-resonant and resonant Kβ X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) methods are used to probe this framework under two solvent environments that yield different extremes of spin crossover temperature: acetonitrile and toluene. While the acetonitrile pore environment engenders an SCO response around room temperature, toluene guests stabilize the high spin state and effectively suppress SCO behavior throughout the ambient temperature range.

Using the approach of sequencing the V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene, we have analyzed the bacterial diversity associated with the gut and "body" (other parts of nematode after dissection: cuticle, epidermis and longitudinal muscles, etc) of parasitizing the swim bladder of different morphotypes of the nosed charr. Comparisons of the gut microbiota of nematodes with their "body" has revealed that the associated microbiota are closely related to each other. Taxonomic analysis indicated that the relative abundances of the dominant nematode-associated bacteria varied with individual fish.

The mechanisms enabling fish tapeworms to avoid proteolytic attacks by digestive enzymes of their fish host have been studied in less detail compared with mammalian cestodes. This study aimed to assess the inhibitory ability towards trypsin and chymotrypsin in Eubothrium rugosum, an intestinal parasite of burbot Lota lota, and establish its localization in the tapeworm. To this end, the worms were treated with Triton X-100 followed by differential centrifugation to isolate the tegumental brush border membrane.

The aim of the present study was to test the possible ameliorative efficacy of phytochemicals such as tannins on intestinal inflammation and dysbiosis. The effect of a chestnut shell () extract (CSE) rich in polyphenols, mainly represented by tannins, on k-carrageenan-induced intestinal inflammation in adult zebrafish () was tested in a feeding trial. Intestinal inflammation was induced by 0.

Aims: The aim of the study was to investigate the skin microbiota of Prussian carp infested by ectoparasites from the genera Argulus and Lernaea.

Methods And Results: Associated microbiota of skin of Prussian carp and ectoparasites were investigated by sequencing of the V3, V4 hypervariable regions of 16S rRNA using Illumina MiSeq sequencing platform.

Conclusions: According to the Spearman rank correlation test, the increasing load of ulcerations of the skin of Prussian carp was weakly negatively correlated with reduction in the abundance of the following taxa: Acrobacter, bacteria C39 (Rhodocyclaceae), Rheinheimera, Comamonadaceae, Helicobacteraceae and Vogesella.

is an Amazonian catfish highly appreciated for its high flesh quality, size, and commercial value. Its aquaculture is pursued to satisfy the demands of an increasing population in the region. However, knowledge of the nutritional needs during the early life stages is necessary for improving growth and reducing the incidence of cannibalism, factors that limit the success of its commercial farming.

The objective of the present study was to assess if trypsin, a key enzyme involved in protein digestion, presents some kind of functional adaptations to seasonal changes in water temperature in freshwater fish. In order to test this hypothesis, individuals of two fish species Carassius gibelio (agastric) and Perca fluviatilis (gastric) were sampled in the basin of Chany Lake (Siberia, Russia) at two different seasons (spring and summer). Apparent kinetic parameters (K and V) were determined for both species and seasons at the actual pH values in fish guts, and at actual temperatures.

One of the reasons for the development of hypoglycemia is the synthesis of autoimmune antibodies to insulin or its receptor – insulin autoimmune syndrome (IAS). The largest number of cases of this syndrome is described in the Japanese population. The antibodies to insulin are most often polyclonal immunoglobulins.
