A series of copolymers of acrylamide (Am) with 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AmMPSA) and N-2-hydroxypropyl-methacrylamide (HPMA) with acrylic acid (AA) have been synthesized. Complexes of gentamycin in the base form with these polymers and dextran sulfate were obtained. It is established that both poly(AmMPCA) and its complex with gentamycin exhibit an antiviral activity in vitro against human A(H3N2) influenza virus and herpes simplex virus of type 1 (HSV-1).

It was found that the antimicrobial activity of modified carbon fiber fabrics depended on the nature of the support and on the immobilization conditions. The highest antimicrobial activity was observed with phosphorus-containing carbon fiber ion exchanger in salt form.

The complexes are less toxic than arbidol and retain the high level of antiviral activity of this drug. The content of arbidol in the obtained complexes is within 26.

CPA containing 3-OAA (3-OAA-CPA) were detected during the administration of 24 of 30 investigated polymers. The induction of 3-OAA-CPA and the character of their distribution in the organism (in all investigated tissues: serum, extracts of liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys tissues or in single tissues) depended on the chemical structure of polymers.

By neutralization of copolymers of N-(2-hydroxypropyl) methacrylamide with acrylic acid and copolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone with crotonic and p-crotonoylaminophenoxyacetic acids in the presence of gentamycin, water-soluble polymer salts containing from 10 to 25 mass% of gentamycin were obtained. These salts regardless of gentamycin content completely retain high level of antimicrobial activity of gentamycin against Staphylococcus spp. and Escherichia coli and are characterized by less (by more than one order of magnitude) acute toxicity.

By means of a double diffusion reaction in agar and a complement-binding reaction it was found that immunization of rabbits with the benzidine-polymer antigens (with or without complete Freund's adjuvant) led to the formation of highly specific antibodies against the hapten benzidine. Sera from rabbits immunized with these conjugates of benzidine may thus be used for the detection of benzidine in the sera of workers exposed to this chemical.

It is established that terpolymer N-vinyl-pyrrolidone (VP)--crotonic acid (CA)--n-crotonoylaminophenol inhibiting the growth of hepatoma 22a by 50-60% possesses an antitumoral action, while copolymer VP-CA has an immunoadjuvant action. These properties of co(ter)polymers are due to their chemical structure and molecular weight, but they do not always correlate between themselves.

Data obtained demonstrate that blood serum of intact rabbits is able to participate in immunodiffusion reaction with copolymers and therpolymer VP making 1-2 precipitation lines. However, this ability is lost after benzidine linkage, which indicates the possible loss of immunological specificity by macromolecules after interaction between carcinogens and their determinant groups.

The fungistatic activity of merthiolate and its two polymerous derivatives have been investigated using as test cultures fungi producing deterioration. The fungicides sorbtion dynamics by the fungus micelium have been studied, toxicity and inhibition rate of the catalase from different sources have been evaluated. The polymerous derivatives have been found to maintain high fungistatic activity of merthiolate, but possess less toxicity.

Low inhibitory effect of the polyelectrolites with respect to penicillinase and hyaluronidase was shown. Changes in the membrane apparatus of staphylococcus cells due to the effect of polyelectrolites were found.
