Silymarin and thymoquinone exert neuroprotective effects, although their combined effects in focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) models are unknown. We compared the effect of silymarin and thymoquinone in an I/R rat model. Wistar rats were divided into five groups: SHAM, REP (I/R), SIR (200 mg/kg silymarin+I/R), TIR (3 mg/kg thymoquinone+I/R), and STIR (200 mg/kg silymarin+3-mg thymoquinone+I/R).

Naringin Affects Caspase-3, IL-1β, and HIF-1α Levels in Experimental Kidney Ischemia-Reperfusion in Rats.

Background: Microvascular dysfunction develops in tissues after Ischemia-Reperfusion (IR). The present study aimed to determine the effect of 3',4'-dihydroxyflavonol (DiOHF) on apoptosis in the cerebellum and hippocampus in rats with ischemia-reperfusion. A total of 38 Wistar albino male rats were used. Experimental groups were designed as Group 1-Sham; Group 2-Ischemia-reperfusion (IR), in which animals were anesthetized and carotid arteries ligated for 30 minutes (ischemia) and reperfused 30 minutes; Group 3- IR + DiOHF (10 mg/kg); Group 4- Ischemia + DiOHF (10 mg/kg) + reperfusion; Group 5-DiOHF + IR.

Due to filters that offer feature extraction, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is recognized as an accurate, efficient and trustworthy deep learning technique for the solution of image-based challenges. The high-performing CNNs are computationally demanding even if they produce good results in a variety of applications.

The Association Between Mood Stabilizers, Sleep Quality, and Functioning in Patients With Remitted Bipolar Disorder.

Purpose/background: The current study aimed to examine the differences in sleep quality, illness severity, and functioning in remitted bipolar disorder patients who are using mood stabilizers and antipsychotics either as monotherapy or as combination/additional therapy.

Methods/procedures: A total of 113 remitted outpatients with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fifth Edition) bipolar disorder were recruited. The patients were classified on the basis of their current treatment regimen: 44 patients were receiving a single mood stabilizer, 21 patients were receiving a single antipsychotic, and 48 patients were receiving a combination therapy of a single mood stabilizer and a single antipsychotic.

Bilateral Flexion-Type Supracondylar Humerus Fracture.

Supracondylar humerus fractures are common in the pediatric population, but flexion fractures are very rare in this population. The need for open reduction in these fractures is high and can be challenging for orthopaedic surgeons. In this article, we report a 9-year-old patient with bilateral flexion-type humeral fracture treated with closed reduction, which, to our knowledge, is the first report in the literature.

The LUX-ZEPLIN experiment is a dark matter detector centered on a dual-phase xenon time projection chamber operating at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, USA. This Letter reports results from LUX-ZEPLIN's first search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with an exposure of 60 live days using a fiducial mass of 5.5 t.

Increased Dispersion of Ventricular Repolarization as an Arrhythmic Risk Marker in Drug-free Patients With Major Depressive Disorder: A Preliminary Comparative Study.

Objective: Drug-free patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) are understudied in terms of increased risk for arrhythmias. In this study, we compared changes in corrected QT interval (QTc), QTc dispersion (QTcd), Tpeak-Tend (Tp-e), Tp-e/QT ratio, corrected JT interval (JTc), and JTc dispersion (JTcd), which are considered to be among the risk factors for the emergence of ventricular arrhythmias in patients with MDD.

Methods: The study involved 50 patients with MDD who had been free of psychotropic medications for at least 1 month and 52 age-matched and sex-matched healthy controls.

Background: Reankylosis is a frequent pathology in patients who are operated for post-traumatic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis. In the current practice, ankylosing spondylitis attacks are monitored with the increases in neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR). In this study, such a relation between TMJ reankylosis and increase in these ratios was evaluated.

Purpose: In the present study, we investigated the parenting stress experienced by parents of children with cancer and the influencing factors.

Method: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive correlational study that consisted of parents of 136 children in the age group of 0-18 years who were followed up for cancer in the outpatient clinics and services of a university hospital in Turkey. Parenting Stress Index, Burden Interview, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Marital Life Satisfaction Scale, and Ways of Coping Questionnaire were used to collect the data.

A new definition about the relationship of intercellular fluid in the brain with the mandibular and parotid lymph nodes.

This study was carried out to reveal the relationship of the brain with both the mandibular lymph node (MLN) and parotid lymph node (PLN) by the hyperspectral fluorescence imaging techniques of Qdot 800 (QD) nanoparticles using in vivo. This relationship of the brain with both lymph nodes offers the preliminary morphological definition of lymphatic drainage. Turkey, with her two important straits, is geographically in the middle of one of the major transportation routes and will continue to face risks the oil tankers pose in those sensitive areas. This paper revisits the site of an oil tanker accident that occurred at the northern entrance of the Istanbul Strait in 1994. The aim of the study was to simulate the same accident in PISCES-II Simulator to compare the response actions of the time with the present capabilities.
