Evaluation of spontaneous exploratory and anxiety-related behaviors of mice treated with gymnopilins obtained from the mushroom Gymnopilus imperialis (Agaricomycetes, Basidiomycota).

Gymnopilins are long chain oligoisoprenoids produced through the condensation of isoprene units from MEV and MEP biosynthetic pathways. In Gymnopilus, these carotenoid-like molecules are recognized as major compounds in some species. In the present study, oligoisoprenoids derived from gymnopilins were dereplicated from Gymnopilus imperialis, a mushroom-forming basidiomycete, using liquid chromatographic coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry (tandem LC-HRMS/MS) and GNPS.

Standardized extract of treatment and novelty on the weak encoding of spatial recognition memory in rats.

Long-term memory (LTM) formation is dependent on neurochemical changes that guarantee that a recently formed memory (short-term memory [STM]) remains in the specific neural circuitry via the consolidation process. The persistence of recognition memory has been evidenced by using behavioral tagging in young adult rats, but it has not been effective on aging. Here, we investigated the effects of treatment with a standardized extract of (EGb) associated with novelty on the consolidation of object location memory (OLM) and its persistence after weak training of spatial object preference in young adult and aged rats.

Estro-progestin and progestogen intake: What's the impact on hysteroscopic imaging?

Background: In current literature there is no report aimed to evaluate the effects of exogenous steroids on hysteroscopic imaging.

Objectives: To evaluate the hysteroscopic features of endometrium in women undergoing female hormones administration.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed video-records of hysteroscopies carried-out in women taking estro-progestins (EP), progestogen (P) and Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT).

Interaction between Fish Skin Gelatin and Pea Protein at Air-Water Interface after Ultrasound Treatment.

The interaction between fish skin gelatin (FG) and pea protein isolate (PPI) was investigated at the air-water interface (A-W) before and after a high intensity (275 W, 5 min) ultrasound treatment (US). We analyzed the properties of the single protein suspensions as well as an equal ratio of FG:PPI (MIX), in terms of ζ-potential, particle size, molecular weight, bulk viscosity and interfacial tension. The foaming properties were then evaluated by visual analysis and by Turbiscan Tower.

Effortful control is associated with executive attention: A computational study.

Introduction: Effortful control (EC) is the self-regulatory aspect of temperament that is thought to reflect the efficiency of executive attention (EA). Findings on relationship between EC and performance on EA tasks among adults are still contradictory. This study used a computational approach to clarify whether greater self-reported EC reflects better EA.

Differential contribution of HR antagonism by LINS01 compounds on memory, anxiety-like behaviour and spontaneous locomotor activity in healthy rats.

Histamine H receptors (HR) have attracted interest of research groups as drug target to several CNS disorders. Data suggests that HR antagonists exert neuroprotective, cognitive enhancement and antidepressant effects in rodents. The LINS01 compounds were reported as selective HR antagonists, but their effects on memory, anxiety-like behaviour and spontaneous locomotor activity were not evaluated to date.

Facial Emotion Recognition and Social-Cognitive Correlates of Narcissistic Features.

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is associated with both seeming indifference and hypersensitivity to social feedback. This study evaluated whether rejection sensitivity and empathic difficulties in NPD are accounted for by altered facial emotion recognition (FER). Two-hundred non-clinical individuals self-reported NPD features, rejection sensitivity, and empathy and performed an FER task assessing the ability to determine the presence or absence of an emotion when viewing neutral and negative facial stimuli presented at varying emotional intensities (25%, 50%, 75%).

Facial emotion recognition and borderline personality pathology.

The impact of borderline personality pathology on facial emotion recognition has been in dispute; with impaired, comparable, and enhanced accuracy found in high borderline personality groups. Discrepancies are likely driven by variations in facial emotion recognition tasks across studies (stimuli type/intensity) and heterogeneity in borderline personality pathology. This study evaluates facial emotion recognition for neutral and negative emotions (fear/sadness/disgust/anger) presented at varying intensities.

Gradient Polymer Nanofoams for Encrypted Recording of Chemical Events.

We have fabricated gradient-grafted nanofoam films that are able to record the presence of volatile chemical compounds in an offline regime. In essence, the nanofoam film (100-300 nm thick) is anchored to a surface cross-linked polymer network in a metastable extended configuration that can relax back to a certain degree upon exposure to a chemical vapor. The level of the chain relaxation is associated with thermodynamic affinity between the polymer chains and the volatile compounds.

Temperature controlled shape change of grafted nanofoams.

We demonstrated that nanoscale-level actuation can be, in principle, achieved with grafted polymer nanofoams by forces associated with conformational changes of stretched macromolecular chains. The nanofoams are fabricated via a two-step procedure. First, the "grafting to" technique is used to obtain a 20-200 nm anchored and cross-linked poly(glycidyl methacrylate) film.

Fabry disease in Argentina: an evaluation of patients enrolled in the Fabry Registry.

Aims: Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked inborn error of metabolism caused by alpha-galactosidase A deficiency. The Fabry Registry is an ongoing, global observational database that compiles clinical data from patients with FD.

Methods: Demographic and baseline clinical characteristics of Fabry Registry patients enrolled in Argentina were analysed and compared with patients enrolled in the rest of the world (ROW).

[Lichen nitidus. Report of two cases, one of them with a generalized distribution].

Lichen nitidus is a dermatosis of unknown origin, characterized by the presence of shiny, pinpoint, skin-colored papules that may be asymptomatic or slightly pruriginous. They usually affect forearms, abdomen, buttocks and genitals. We report two cases, one of them with a generalized presentation.

[The medical treatment of condylomatosis of the lower genital tract. A multicenter outpatient study].

Beta-interferone (Frone, Serono) has been used to treat 56 patients with clinical diagnosis of genital condylomatosis in quantity of 3 million UI/die. Controls have been effected at 3 months since the end of therapy. 30 patients were cured after 3 months of therapy, while at 6 months follow-up we have reported a complete regression in 78.

Cervical changes throughout pregnancy as assessed by transvaginal sonography.

Objective: To evaluate changes in cervical dimensions by transvaginal ultrasound in non-randomly selected pregnant women.

Methods: This longitudinal study included 154 pregnant women undergoing transvaginal ultrasound assessment of the cervix at a mean gestational age of 12, 16, 20, 25, and 31 weeks. On each occasion, the longitudinal and anteroposterior diameters of the cervix were measured.

[New pharmacological approach to therapy of perimenopausal meno-metrorrhagia. Vaginal use of progesterone].

The authors evaluate the effectiveness of a therapy based on natural progesterone to be employed as a vaginal cream in the treatment of meno-metrorrhagia in peri-menopause in 40 patients who were not prepared to consider surgery as a solution for their problems. In the polycentric out-patient study this new preparation has proved to be efficacious and to induce a regression of the endometrial hyperplasia in more than 90% of patients subject to five months' treatment.

[Treatment with GnRH analogs in polycystic ovarian disease. A collaborative multicenter study. The preliminary results].

The study evaluates the efficacy of tryptorelin treatment in cases of acne and hirsutism associated with polycystic ovarian (PCO) disease. This non-comparative open study in a sample population of 20 young patients who wished to have children demonstrates the reduction of the hirsutism and acne score after six months' treatment. Tryptorelin was even capable of normalizing the hematic hormonal levels examined and ovarian function following six months of treatment, as well as at an initial follow-up after three months.

[Therapy of simple endometrial hyperplasia with GnRH analogs. Evaluation of a multicentric ambulatory study. Preliminary results].

Endometrial hyperplasia is a frequent pathology during menopause and involves the risk of malignant transformation of the lesions. In an attempt to avoid radical surgery, this study proposes the use of triptorelin which was used to treat 56 patients with histologically confirmed symptoms of endometrial hyperplasia without atypia. GnRH-analog was administered using the intramuscular route every 28 days for 6 months.

[Fluconazole in the treatment of vaginitis caused by Candida albicans].

The authors verified the local activity and tolerance of the antimycotic drug Fluconazole in 125 cases of women suffering from clinical diagnosed vulvovaginitis caused by Candida albicans. Results were positive with regard to the efficacy and safety of the treatment.

Diagnostic and therapeutic transabdominal amnioinfusion in oligohydramnios.

We report our experience with 92 antenatal amnioinfusion procedures. In order to facilitate ultrasound visualization, a diagnostic infusion was attempted at a median of 22 weeks (range 16-36) in 61 pregnancies with oligohydramnios in the absence of ruptured membranes on clinical examination. The procedure was successful in 58 (95%).

The ESHRE multicentre trial on the treatment of unexplained infertility: a preliminary report. European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.

Nineteen European fertility centres participated in a controlled randomized trial aimed at comparing the effectiveness of five methods for the treatment of unexplained infertility. Each centre was invited to employ two of the five treatments being investigated, and the treatment allocated to individual patients was then decided by randomization. The treatments were superovulation alone, and superovulation together with one of the following procedures: intra-uterine insemination (IUI), intra-peritoneal insemination (IPI), gamete intra-Fallopian transfer (GIFT), in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
