Use of Gain-of-Function Screening to Identify miRNAs Involved in Paclitaxel Resistance in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

Paclitaxel is a widely used chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of breast cancer (BC), including as a front-line treatment for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. However, resistance to paclitaxel remains one of the major causes of death associated with treatment failure. Multiple studies have demonstrated that miRNAs play a role in paclitaxel resistance and are associated with both disease progression and metastasis.

A new and unusually ornate southern African dung beetle species in d'Orbigny's Onthophagus Group 18 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Onthophagini).

Onthophagus pragtig Deschodt, new species is described and illustrated from South Africa. Its known collection localities are shown. We also briefly describe and illustrate three distinct subgroups in the18th Onthophagus group of d'Orbigny (1913) and further provide a checklist of the known species in this group while dividing them into these subgroups where known.

Feeding habits and malaria parasite infection of Anopheles mosquitoes in selected agroecological areas of Northwestern Ethiopia.

Background: Surveillance of the host-anopheline mosquitoes' interaction is important for assessing malaria transmission risk and guiding vector control. We assume that changes in malaria vector species' feeding habits, as well as the surrounding environment, have a substantial impact on varied malaria transmission. In this study, we determined the vertebrate host feeding patterns of anopheline mosquitoes to characterize entomologic risk factors for malaria in Jabi Tehnan, Northwestern Ethiopia.

Phenotypic divergence of (Diptera: Glossinidae) populations in Zambia: Application of landmark-based wing geometric morphometrics to discriminate population-level variation.

An important consequence of the discontinuous distribution of insect populations within their geographic range is phenotypic divergence. Detection of this divergence can be challenging when it occurs through subtle shifts in morphological traits with complex geometries, such as insect wing venation. Here, we used landmark-based wing geometric morphometrics to investigate the population-level phenotypic variation of the two subspecies of , Machado and Westwood that occur in Zambia.

Patients' Perceived Valorization Toward Ringing the Cancer Bell at the End of Their Radiation Therapy.

Purpose: In recent times, "ringing the bell" at the end of cancer treatment has attracted the attention of health care providers with regard to how this experience impacts patients' mental and emotional health. In this context, a study was conducted at a radiation oncology center in Santiago, Chile, to assess the perceived valorization of patients toward "ringing the bell" at the end of their treatment. It was further determined whether this experience had a positive or negative impact on their mental health.

Renal Complications in Portal Hypertension.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication among patients with decompensated cirrhosis and its development is associated with worse prognosis in terms of survival. Patients with decompensated cirrhosis may develop a unique type of AKI, known as hepatorenal syndrome (HRS-AKI), characterized by marked impairment of kidney function due to haemodynamic changes that occur in late stages of liver cirrhosis. Besides, patients with cirrhosis also may develop chronic alterations of kidney function (chronic kidney disease, CKD), the incidence of which is increasing markedly and may be associated with clinical complications.

It has been shown recently that federated learning, combined with privacy-enhancing technologies, is an excellent and privacy-preserving alternative to data sharing.

Vectorial drivers of malaria transmission in Jabi Tehnan district, Amhara Regional State, Ethiopia.

Among the factors affecting the effectiveness of malaria control is poor knowledge of the entomologic drivers of the disease. We investigated anopheline populations as part of a baseline study to implement house screening of windows and doors as a supplementary malaria control tool towards elimination in Jabi Tehnan district, Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia. The samples were surveyed monthly using CDC light traps between June 2020 and May 2021.

B cell abnormalities and the production of autoantibodies against nuclear complexes like anti-dsDNA are recognised as key players in the pathogenesis of LN. To address the challenges of chronic immunosuppression associated with current therapies, we have engineered T cells to express chimeric autoantibody receptors (DNA-CAART) for the precise targeting of B cells expressing anti-dsDNA autoantibodies.

The field of single-cell omics has transformed our understanding of biological processes and is constantly advancing both experimentally and computationally. One of the most significant developments is the ability to measure the transcriptome of individual cells by single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq), which was pioneered in higher eukaryotes. A new dung beetle genus and species is described and pictured following its recent discovery on a farm in South Africa. Hathor spinosa Deschodt, new species belongs to the subfamily Scarabaeinae, tribe Onthophagini Streubel, 1846, it shows a unique set of characters. A map is provided to show the type locality of the new genus and species that has a putative association with ants.

Background: Tsetse-transmitted African trypanosomiasis is a debilitating and fatal disease of humans and livestock if left untreated. While knowledge of the spatial distribution patterns of tsetse is essential for the development of risk-based vector control strategies, existing distribution maps in Zambia are more than 40 years old and were based on coarse spatial resolution data. The recently developed vehicle-mounted sticky trap (VST) provides an alternative sampling device to aid in updating existing distribution maps but has not been applied outside an experimental setting and is limited to motorable tracks.
