Background: Chronic bronchopulmonary infection due to MRSA in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) has been associated with accelerated decline in lung function, increased hospitalizations and increased mortality.
Material And Methods: We studied microbiological and genomic characteristics of MRSA isolates recovered from pwCF in two Spanish multicentre studies (2013, 2021). Antimicrobial susceptibility was performed.
The development of accurate predictions for a new drug's absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion profiles in the early stages of drug development is crucial due to high candidate failure rates. The absence of comprehensive, standardised, and updated pharmacokinetic (PK) repositories limits pre-clinical predictions and often requires searching through the scientific literature for PK parameter estimates from similar compounds. While text mining offers promising advancements in automatic PK parameter extraction, accurate Named Entity Recognition (NER) of PK terms remains a bottleneck due to limited resources.

Purpose Of Review: The purpose of this review is to summarize available data on fertility, fertility preservation, pregnancy and parenthood following lung transplantation for people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF).
Recent Findings: In the era of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator use, oral therapies that positively impact fundamental CFTR protein abnormalities, the number of pregnancies has increased dramatically with a concomitant decrease in lung transplantation. Nonetheless, some pwCF still require lung transplantation as a life-saving measure, and a fraction of those individuals desires parenthood.

Hyperspectral imaging is a valuable analytical technique with significant benefits for environmental monitoring. However, the application of these technologies remains limited, largely by the cost and bulk associated with available instrumentation. This results in a lack of high-resolution data from more challenging and extreme environmental settings, limiting our knowledge and understanding of the effects of climate change in these regions.

Despite the sizable interlayer separation and metallic nature of the 1H layer, positive bias voltages result in a pronounced superposition of the 1T charge density wave structure on the 1H layer. The conventional explanation relying on tunneling effects proves insufficient.

Despite substantial progress in recent decades, the challenge of achieving control over multiconfigurational reversible switches in low-dimensional nanostructures persists. Our work demonstrates multiple, fully reversible plasmon-driven spin-crossover switches in a single π-d metal-organic chain suspended between two electrodes.

Background: Heart failure (HF) is a chronic condition with considerable clinical burden for patients and economic burden for healthcare systems. Treatment for HF is typically based on ejection fraction (EF) phenotype. The cost-effectiveness of empagliflozin + standard of care (SoC) compared to SoC has been examined for HF phenotypes below or above 40% EF separately, but not across the full spectrum of EF in Spain.

Gloss is an important attribute that people use to understand surface appearance, right after color. In the past decades, extensive research has been conducted in the field of gloss and gloss perception, with different aims to understand the complex nature of gloss appearance.

It is caused by large-artery atherosclerosis, mostly in the internal carotid artery, and it is associated with a high risk of early recurrence. After an ischemic stroke, tissue plasminogen activator is used in clinical practice, although it is not possible in all patients.

In peptide-centric workflows, protein mixtures are enzymatically digested to peptides prior their analysis. However, proteome-wide quantification studies rarely identify all potential peptides for any given protein, and targeted proteomics experiments focus on a set of peptides for the proteins of interest.

Before the approval of empagliflozin, there were no proven effective treatments for patients with heart failure with left ventricular ejection fraction (HF LVEF) > 40%. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of empagliflozin + standard of care (SoC) compared with SoC alone for patients with HF LVEF > 40%, from the perspective of the healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK), Spain, and France, and to quantify the healthcare costs for these patients.

However, a major challenge is to assess their sustained effects over time. +AGIL Barcelona, a consolidated multidomain program, aims to optimize older adults' intrinsic capacity through a coordinated approach among primary care, geriatrics and community resources, in agreement with the integrated care for older people (ICOPE) guidelines.

Methodology: Multicentre, ambispective, observational, study in which 114 patients in follow-up in 16 national CF units were recruited. Clinical data, functional tests, nutritional parameters, quality of life questionnaires, microbiological isolates, number of exacerbations, antibiotic treatments and side effects were collected.
Background: Compared to many environmental risk factors, the relationship between pollen and asthma is understudied, including how associations may differ by pollen type and between subgroups, and how associations may be changing over time.
Objectives: We evaluated the association between ambient pollen concentrations and emergency department (ED) visits for asthma and wheeze in Atlanta, Georgia during 1993-2018. We estimated overall associations for 13 individual pollen taxa, as well as associations by decade, race, age (5-17, 18-64, 65+), and insurance status (Medicaid vs non-Medicaid).
Clinical management of transplant patients abruptly changed during the first months of COVID-19 pandemic (March to May 2020). The new situation led to very significant challenges, such as new forms of relationship between healthcare providers and patients and other professionals, design of protocols to prevent disease transmission and treatment of infected patients, management of waiting lists and of transplant programs during state/city lockdown, relevant reduction of medical training and educational activities, halt or delays of ongoing research, etc. The two main objectives of the current report are: 1) to promote a project of best practices in transplantation taking advantage of the knowledge and experience acquired by professionals during the evolving situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, both in performing their usual care activity, as well as in the adjustments taken to adapt to the clinical context, and 2) to create a document that collects these best practices, thus allowing the creation of a useful compendium for the exchange of knowledge between different Transplant Units.

In this study, we aimed to identify modified LDLs and antioxidant enzymes associated with plaque vulnerability in plasma from patients with a recent ischemic stroke and carotid atherosclerosis. Patients underwent an ultrasound, a CT-angiography, and an F-FDG PET.

Aim: Our aim was to evaluate the performance of soluble low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 (sLRP1) as an indicator of carotid plaque inflammation.
Methods: A prospective study was conducted among adult patients with recent (< 7 days) anterior circulation ischemic stroke and at least one atherosclerotic plaque in the ipsilateral internal carotid artery.
Computed tomography (CT) is a diagnostic medical imaging modality commonly used to detect disease and injury. Contrast agents containing iodine, such as iohexol, are frequently used in CT examinations to more clearly differentiate anatomic structures and to detect and characterize abnormalities, including tumors. However, these contrast agents do not have a specific tropism for cancer cells, so the ability to detect tumors is severely limited by the degree of vascularization of the tumor itself.
