The hindfoot is an uncommon site for malignant tumours. While limb salvage procedures are now more common for treating bone sarcoma, there is limited information available on hindfoot reconstruction alternatives because of its low incidence and its challenging outcomes. We present a case report of a man in his late 60s with synovial sarcoma affecting the right heel (calcaneus and soft tissue).

Two Decades of Thyroid Nodule Cytology in Children: Malignancy Risk Assessment at a Tertiary Care Center.

Introduction: Pediatric thyroid nodules exhibit higher malignancy rates compared to adults and are associated with increased incidences of metastases and recurrences. The American Thyroid Association recommends surgery for indeterminate thyroid biopsies in children based on these higher malignancy risks, though this approach may lead to overtreatment. However, there remains a lack of comprehensive pediatric data to inform clinical decisions.

Lobectomy in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer: experience of a Chilean tertiary center.

Purpose: Thyroid lobectomy (TL) is an appropriate treatment for up to 4 cm intrathyroidal differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). There is scarce data regarding TL outside first-world centers. Our aim is to report a cohort of patients with DTC treated with TL in Chile.

Active surveillance is a feasible and safe strategy in selected patients with papillary thyroid cancer and suspicious cervical lymph nodes detected after thyroidectomy.

Objective: After initial treatment, up to 30% of patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) have incomplete response, mainly cervical lymph node (LN) disease. This article examines the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of paediatric care within the framework of the 7P medicine model (Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, Precise, Participatory, Peripheral and Polyprofessional). It highlights various applications of AI in the diagnosis, treatment and management of paediatric diseases as well as the role of AI in prevention and in the efficient management of health care resources and the resulting impact on the sustainability of public health systems. Successful cases of the application of AI in the paediatric care setting are presented, placing emphasis on the need to move towards a 7P health care model.

Identification and Quantification of the Major Phenolic Constituents in and Commercial Interspecific Hybrids ( x ) Chestnuts Using HPLC-MS/MS.

Due to the lack of studies on chestnut metabolites, this study was conducted to identify and quantify the major phenolic constituents in chestnuts. Data were compared with the three most commonly grown interspecific hybrids of and ('Bouche de Betizac', 'Marsol', and 'Maraval') and three "native" accessions of . High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry was used to identify and quantify these compounds.

An intervention at an adult inpatient unit to engage people with schizophrenia and work goals with supported employment.

Objective: Test an intervention for individuals with schizophrenia at an Adult Inpatient Unit with employment and social inclusion goals, compared to treatment as usual.

Method: A single-blind, randomised, controlled trial assigned 25 participants to treatment as usual and 26 participants to receive an Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Disability Employment Service (DES) information pack and an offer of support from a nurse. Outcomes were measured at 6 and 12 months using Job Acquisition, IPS DES employment provider, Activity Participation Questionnaire-Revised, Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale, and Adult Hope Scale questionnaires, and Digit Span and Trail Making tests.

The Effects of the Cultivar and Environment on the Phenolic Contents of Hazelnut Kernels.

Different climatic conditions are known to affect the synthesis of primary and secondary metabolites. Therefore, the phenolic contents in new growing areas could affect the quality and flavor of hazelnuts. The aim of this study was to determine the variability of the phenolic contents of the kernels in different commercial hazelnut cultivars depending on their growing area.

Clinical psychology referral for individuals with auditory verbal hallucinations and schizophrenia: Therapy engagement, hallucination severity and distress.

Objective: Test an intervention for people with schizophrenia and auditory verbal hallucinations at an acute inpatient unit (AIU) to engage with community therapy and reduce hallucination severity and associated distress. The trial cohort consisted of patients who after assessment by an AIU psychiatrist were not selected for an appointment with an AIU clinical psychologist and an opportunity for referral to a post-discharge community psychologist. An intervention providing the appointment and referral opportunity was compared to Treatment As Usual (TAU).

Integration of alcohol and drug nurses into a mental health unit.

Objective: Test whether extra time with alcohol and drug nurses for inpatients at a Mental Health Unit (MHU) reduces post-discharge mental and co-occurring alcohol and drug problems and increases engagement in alcohol and drug treatment more than a Brief Information Pack (BIP).

Method: Single blind randomised control trial in block design compared two alcohol and drug nurse delivered interventions over 6 months post-discharge using the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) and Brief Symptom Inventory index of overall psychological distress Global Severity Index (GSI).

Results: Alcohol and drug nurse delivered BIP was associated with a statistically significant reduction in AUDIT measured alcohol use for the highest follow-up score across the 6-month post-discharge period, = 20, = 2.

Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare malignant disease that presents as a sporadic or familial primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP). The latter is associated with some genetic syndromes. It occurs with equal frequency in both sexes, unlike PHP caused by parathyroid adenoma that is more common in women.

Polyostotic fibrous dysplasia (McCune-Albright) with rare multiple epiphyseal lesions in association with aneurysmal bone cyst and pathologic fracture.

Fibrous dysplasia, including McCune-Albright syndrome, is a genetic, non-inheritable benign bone disorder that may involve a single or multiple bone, typically occurring in the diaphysis or the metaphysis of long bones. In very rare instances polyostotic fibrous dysplasia present involvement of the epiphysis in long bones. Aneurysmal bone cysts are benign, expansile, lytic bone lesions formed by cystic cavities containing blood, that may occur de novo or secondary to other lesions of bone, including fibrous dysplasia.

Walnut () Agro-Residues as a Rich Source of Phenolic Compounds.

The present study was designed to identify and quantify the major phenolic compounds (phenolics) in the inner and outer husks, buds and bark of the Persian walnut, L. A comparison across six different cultivars grown in Slovenia was also carried out: 'Fernor', 'Fernette', 'Franquette', 'Sava', 'Krka' and 'Rubina'. A total of 83 compounds were identified, which included 25 naphthoquinones, 15 hydroxycinnamic acids, 8 hydroxybenzoic acids, 13 flavanols, 2 flavones, 1 flavanone and 19 flavonols.

Objective: Warthin-like papillary thyroid cancer (WL-PTC) is an uncommon variant of PTC, usually associated with lymphocytic thyroiditis. Scarce evidence suggests that WL-PTC has similar clinical presentation to classic PTC (C-PTC), with no studies comparing risks of recurrence and response to treatment between both variants. A Thyroid Genetic Classifier Correctly Predicts Benign Nodules with Indeterminate Cytology: Two Independent, Multicenter, Prospective Validation Trials.

Although most thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology are benign, in most of the world, surgery remains as the most frequent diagnostic approach. We have previously reported a 10-gene thyroid genetic classifier, which accurately predicts benign thyroid nodules. The assay is a prototype diagnostic kit suitable for reference laboratory testing and could potentially avoid unnecessary diagnostic surgery in patients with indeterminate thyroid cytology.

The Combination of RET, BRAF and Demographic Data Identifies Subsets of Patients with Aggressive Papillary Thyroid Cancer.

The use of BRAFV600E and RET/PTC1 as biomarkers to guide the extent of surgery in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) remains controversial. We assessed the combined use of demographic data (sex and age) with mRNA expression levels and/or mutational status (BRAFV600E and RET/PTC1) to identify potential subsets of patients with aggressive histopathological features (lymph node metastases and extrathyroidal extension). In a cohort of 126 consecutive patients, BRAFV600E and RET/PTC1 mutations were found in 52 and 18%, respectively.

Red Walnut: Characterization of the Phenolic Profiles, Activities and Gene Expression of Selected Enzymes Related to the Phenylpropanoid Pathway in Pellicle during Walnut Development.

A rare walnut variant with a red seed coat (pellicle) was examined for alterations in its phenolic profile during development. The red-walnut (RW) pellicle was compared with two commonly colored walnut varieties: 'Lara' (brown) and 'Fernor' (light brown). Furthermore, the activities of selected enzymes of the phenylpropanoid- and flavonoid-related pathways and the relative expressions of the structural genes phenylalanine ammonia lyase ( PAL) and anthocyanidin synthase ( ANS) were examined in the pellicles of the three varieties.

Changes in phenolic profiles of red-colored pellicle walnut and hazelnut kernel during ripening.

In studies of secondary metabolites in nuts, many constituents in the kernel remain unidentified due to a high content of phenolic compounds in the pellicle. In the present study, we focused on the investigation of the phenolic and dicarboxylic acid profiles of walnut and hazelnut pellicle-less kernels. High-performance liquid chromatography with diode array and mass spectrometric detection (HPLC-DAD-MSn) was used to carry out the determination of individual phenolics and dicarboxylic acids in brown and red-pellicle walnut and hazelnut.

Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most prevalent endocrine neoplasia. The increased incidence of PTC in patients with thyroiditis and the frequent immune infiltrate found in PTC suggest that inflammation might be a risk factor for PTC development. The CXCR3-ligand system is involved in thyroid inflammation and CXCR3 has been found upregulated in many tumors, suggesting its pro-tumorigenic role under the inflammatory microenvironment.
