Introduction: Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) may occasionally be indicated for complete removal of periampullary (duodenal and ampullary) adenomas (PAs). As compared with malignant indications, PD for benign or pre-malignant disease is often associated with increased morbidity. While the Spigelman classification assesses malignancy risk for familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)-related duodenal adenomas, no malignancy risk score (MRS) exists for non-FAP related PAs.

Background: Opioid crisis is a national issue with significant economic burden and marked increase in opioid-related deaths, particularly following surgical procedures. Reducing opioid requirements while maintaining effective analgesia is critically challenging, perioperatively. Multimodal drug regimens and guided regional anesthesia (RA) have been adopted to address this issue.

In αβ T cells, immunosurveillance is enabled by the αβ TCR, which corecognizes peptide, lipid, or small-molecule Ags presented by MHC- and MHC class I-like Ag-presenting molecules, respectively. Although αβ TCRs vary in their Ag recognition modes, in general they corecognize the presented Ag and the Ag-presenting molecule and do so in an invariable "end-to-end" manner. Quite distinctly, γδ T cells, by way of their γδ TCR, can recognize ligands that extend beyond the confines of MHC- and MHC class I-like restrictions.

The diagnosis and monitoring of disease through the detection of circulating protein biomarkers is a growing field in the practice of oncology. The search for more effective protein biomarkers to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains a valuable area of study, given the aggressive and often occult nature of this malignancy. Liquid biopsies are attractive, as they offer a minimally invasive and cost-effective approach when compared to traditional biopsy methods and imaging modalities used for diagnosis and surveillance.

Article Synopsis
  • - Gastric neuroendocrine tumors (G-NET) are uncommon tumors from gastric enterochromaffin-like cells, classified into low, intermediate, or high grades based on their growth rates and further divided into three subtypes.
  • - Types 1 and 2 tumors have elevated serum gastrin levels, often present with symptoms like abdominal pain and diarrhea, and are usually multifocal, while Type 3 tumors have normal gastrin levels, are solitary, and more aggressive.
  • - Treatment and outcomes vary based on the tumor type, size, and stage, with Type 1 having the best prognosis and Type 3 the worst; the review covers their symptoms, diagnosis, and surgical options.

Background: Cambodia, a lower middle-income country of about 16 million individuals in southeast Asia, endures a high burden of both tuberculosis and other lower respiratory infections. Differentiating tuberculosis from other causes of respiratory infection has important clinical implications yet may be challenging to accomplish in the absence of diagnostic microbiology facilities. Furthermore, co-infection of tuberculosis with other bacterial lower respiratory infections may occur.

Phenolic compounds (flavonoids and phenolic acid derivatives) are the most important pharmacologically active ingredients, and these compounds could inhibit proliferation of human cancer cells by inducing of apoptotic cell death. Here we focused on the anticancer effects of tectochrysin on human non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells and its mechanism of action. We analysed the activity of tectochrysin on NSCLC cells (A549 and NCI-H460) by use of Western blot analysis for major apoptotic proteins and death receptor expression.
