To decrease the number of chronic kidney disease (CKD), early diagnosis of diabetic kidney disease is required. We performed invariant information clustering (IIC)-based clustering on glomerular images obtained from nephrectomized kidneys of patients with and without diabetes. We also used visualizing techniques (gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM) and generative adversarial networks (GAN)) to identify the novel and early pathological changes on light microscopy in diabetic nephropathy.

Peroxiredoxin (PRDX) primarily employs electrons from thioredoxin in order to reduce peroxides. PRDX4 mainly resides either in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) lumen or in extracellular spaces. Due to the usage of alternative promoters, a first exon is transcribed from different regions of the Prdx4 gene, which results in two types of mRNAs.

Myoepitheliomas are rare salivary gland-type tumors. The tumors are divided into four histological subtypes (spindle cell, plasmacytoid, epithelioid, and clear cell) and two variants (reticular and mucinous). A myoepithelioma of the mucinous variant, also referred to as mucinous or secretory myoepithelioma, is a novel variant of myoepithelioma characterized by the presence of extracellular mucin.

Article Synopsis
  • Fluid overload-associated large B-cell lymphoma (FO-LBCL) is a recently identified type of lymphoma that manifests primarily through fluid build-up (effusions) in body cavities like the pleura or peritoneum, without forming a noticeable tumor mass.
  • An 80-year-old man with right pleural effusion and difficulty breathing underwent diagnostic procedures, including fluid analysis and biopsy, which eventually led to a diagnosis of FO-LBCL after a complicated assessment process.
  • Despite initial management, the patient's condition worsened over a year, leading to his death from disease recurrence, highlighting the aggressive nature of FO-LBCL.

Article Synopsis
  • - Gastric adenocarcinoma shows various genetic changes, but the key genes responsible for its development are still unclear; this study focused on identifying these key genes by analyzing tissue samples from patients.
  • - The researchers found that the VEGFA gene locus on chromosome 6p is often amplified in gastric adenocarcinoma, affecting about 20% of the cases studied.
  • - VEGFA amplification is linked to specific cancer characteristics and improved patient survival rates, indicating it could serve as a marker for better prognosis in gastric adenocarcinoma cases.

Pathological diagnosis of breast cancer often includes cases of lymph node metastases without lymphatic or lymphovascular invasion by the primary tumor. In this study, to resolve this discrepancy, we designed a sensitive method to detect lymphatic invasion and correlate it with lymph node metastasis. Elastica van Gieson (EVG) staining and D2-40 immunohistochemistry revealed the abundant distribution of lymphatic vessels around blood vessels in the mammary tissue in close proximity to the elastic fibers around the arteries and veins.

We present the case of a 52-year-old female with a giant phyllodes tumor (GPT), which was fungating through the skin that showed fleshy polypoid outgrowths. Histological analysis revealed stromal atypia, mitotic activity, and stromal overgrowth; however, the tumor border was well-defined, and malignant heterologous elements were not observed. Therefore, as some but not all malignant histological characteristics were present, we diagnosed the patient with borderline GPT.

A 70-year-old female, diagnosed with mitochondrial diabetes mellitus (MDM) showing previously a point mutation at mitochondrial DNA 3316G>A, noticed urinary tract infection and diabetic gangrene of the foot with Gram-negative bacteremia, followed by aggressive jaundice with high serum level of direct bilirubin. She died two months after the symptom onset. At autopsy, multiple foci of bacteremia-induced hemorrhagic infarction were observed in the congestive bilateral lungs, whereas the cholestatic liver revealed no overt gross cholangiectasis.

Introduction: Administration of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) into the joint cavity has been shown to alleviate the symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (OA) by releasing exosomes and anti-inflammatory cytokines. However, the therapeutic effect of these cells is limited by their rapid disappearance after administration. Thus, it is necessary to prolong cell survival in the joint cavity.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) has been recognized as a rare adverse event following the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination. We report a case of neuropsychiatric symptoms and refractory HLH in a woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) after receiving her COVID-19 vaccine treated with belimumab, later found to have intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) at autopsy. A 61-year-old woman with SLE was referred to our hospital because of impaired consciousness and fever.

Background: The junction between the peristaltic and non-peristaltic bowel, which is named the "shore break" (SB), observed on endoscopy is thought to be the boundary between normal and abnormal motility in Hirschsprung's disease (HD). The transition zone (TZ), which is the histopathological border, does not have normal motility and should be resected. This study aimed to evaluate the histopathological findings of the SB and determine the association between the SB and TZ.

Histopathologic findings in the lymph nodes of patients with thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, reticulin fibrosis, renal dysfunction, and organomegaly (TAFRO) syndrome are similar to those of idiopathic multicentric Castleman's disease (iMCD), but TAFRO syndrome is different from iMCD in how it can progress rapidly and be fatal. These patients present scarce lymphadenopathy and low immunoglobulin levels. We present a case of cutaneous and systemic plasmacytosis (C/SP) that caused TAFRO syndrome-like symptoms which were successfully treated with rituximab.
