The nonaccidental trauma in SBS has been associated with retinal findings, including hemorrhages in all layers of the retina and retinoschisis.
Methods: Three consecutive patients with presumed SBS underwent complete ocular examination, fundus photography with the RetCam (Clarity Medical Systems, Pleasanton, CA), and imaging with the HHSD-OCT.
We performed this study to evaluate the relationship between the stages of PD and autonomic dysfunction, and to find an association between the autonomic dysfunction and cognitive impairment in PD. Sixty-three patients who met the criteria of the United Kingdom PD Society Brain Bank were enrolled prospectively. The surfaces of comb-like poly(oxyethylene) derivatives with n-alkylsulfonyl side groups were more effective at reducing Pseudomonas aeruginosa adhesion than the surfaces of common materials such as polystyrene, poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(dimethylsiloxane), fluorinated polyacrylate, and glass. When the comb-like poly(oxyethylene) was mixed with polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate), the topology and roughness of the surfaces varied according to the mixture compositions. However the surface energies of the mixtures were close to that of the comb-like poly(oxyethylene) in the range of 21-23 mN/m and bacterial adhesion resistances of the mixture surfaces were also comparable to that of the pure comb-like poly(oxyethylene) surface.

A unique feature of this disease is the development of retinoschisis of the macula. This study used fine anatomic and functional assessments within this region to determine whether the loss of retinal function was due to progressive schisis or a primary photoreceptor loss, similar to other rod-cone dystrophies.

In a screen for Arabidopsis thaliana mutants affected in the trafficking of C-terminal VSD containing proteins, we isolated the ribosomal biogenesis mutant rpl4a characterized by its partial secretion of vacuolar targeted proteins and a plethora of developmental phenotypes derived from its aberrant auxin responses. In this study, we show that ribosomal biogenesis can be directly regulated by auxins and that the exogenous application of auxins to wild-type plants results in vacuolar trafficking defects similar to those observed in rpl4a mutants.

In this study, we demonstrate the ethno-pharmacological activity of Acer tegmentosum in in vitro and in vivo inflammatory conditions.
Results: The 70% ethanol extract (At-EE) of Acer tegmentosum dose-dependently diminished the production of nitric oxide (NO), tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, and prostaglandin (PG)E(2), in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-activated RAW264.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether fundus autofluorescence (FAF) and spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) imaging allow better assessment of retinal pigment epithelium and the outer retina in subjects with chronic Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease compared with examination and angiography alone.
Methods: A cross-sectional analysis of a series of seven consecutive patients with chronic Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease undergoing FAF and SD-OCT was conducted. Chronic disease was defined as duration of intraocular inflammation >3 months.
The surface properties of comb-like polymer blends of poly(oxyethylene)s having CH(3)-terminated and CF(3)-terminated alkylsulfonylmethyl side chains were studied. These side chains were found to be well oriented on the surface of the blends, while being phase separated, forming various surface morphologies composed of holes, islands, or connected islands, because of their immiscibility resulting from their different polarities. The domain size of each polymer on the blend surface was found to be almost linearly proportional to the bulk compositions of the mixture, and the CF(3)-terminated alkylsulfonylmethyl side chain domains were found to be located in the lower region of the surface.
