Background And Purpose: The hot cross bun (HCB) sign is a hallmark feature of multiple system atrophy with predominant cerebellar ataxia (MSA-C), typically observed in advanced stages of the disease; however, it can also present in other conditions such as spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), making the differentiation challenging. The middle cerebellar peduncle (MCP) sign may be observed in various medical conditions and in healthy individuals. We hypothesized that the inferior cerebellar peduncle (ICP), known to be affected in MSA-C, may exhibit hyperintensity on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging, potentially aiding in differentiating MSA-C from SCA.

Background: Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and idiopathic short stature (ISS) are the major etiologies of short stature in children. For the diagnosis of GHD and ISS, meticulous evaluations are required, including growth hormone provocation tests, which are invasive and burdensome for children. Additionally, sella magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is necessary for assessing etiologies of GHD, which cannot evaluate hormonal secretion.

Photonic topological systems may be exploited in topological quantum light generation, the development of topological lasers, the implementation of photonic routing systems and optical parametric amplification. Here, we leverage the strong light confinement of an ultra-silicon-rich nitride (USRN) topological waveguide adopting the 1D Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) system with a topological domain wall. We present the formation and propagation of temporal optical solitons in the topological waveguide, exhibiting two-fold temporal compression.

: Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) injection is widely used for masseter hypertrophy. Traditional BoNT-A injection methods often incorporate landmark-guided blind injections, which approximate the shape of the masseter muscle inject across various points. Conversely, ultrasound (US)-guided injection techniques offer real-time visualization and dynamic monitoring, enhancing accuracy.

Iron and myelin are primary susceptibility sources in the human brain. These substances are essential for a healthy brain, and their abnormalities are often related to various neurological disorders. Recently, an advanced susceptibility mapping technique, which is referred to as χ-separation (pronounced as "chi"-separation), has been proposed, successfully disentangling paramagnetic iron from diamagnetic myelin.

Background: Altered thyroid hormone levels have been associated with increased risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia and related cognitive decline. However, the neuropathological substrates underlying the link between thyroid hormones and AD dementia are not yet fully understood. We first investigated the association between serum thyroid hormone levels and in vivo AD pathologies including both beta-amyloid (Aβ) and tau deposition measured by positron emission tomography (PET).

Article Synopsis
  • Combination immunotherapy using atezolizumab and bevacizumab has become the go-to treatment for inoperable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but there's a lack of markers to predict patient response.
  • Researchers developed an immune signature score (ISS) and narrowed it down to 10 key genes (ISS10) to identify which patients are likely to respond better to treatment.
  • Their findings show that patients with a high ISS had better survival rates and response to treatment, highlighting ISS and ISS10 as valuable tools for personalizing HCC therapies.

To evaluate the performance of MRI-derived radiomic risk score (RRS) and PD-L1 expression to predict overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) of patients with recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma receiving nivolumab therapy. Three hundred forty radiomic features from pretreatment MRI were used to construct the RRS. The integrated area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (iAUC) was calculated to evaluate the performance of the RRS and PD-L1.

Supracolloidal chains consisting of nano- or micro-scale particles exhibit anisotropic properties not observed in individual particles. The orientation of the chains is necessary to manifest such characteristics on a macroscopic scale. In this study, we demonstrate the orientation of supracolloidal chains composed of nano-scale micelles of a diblock copolymer through spin-coating.

Although dysregulated cholesterol metabolism predisposes aging tissues to inflammation and a plethora of diseases, the underlying molecular mechanism remains poorly defined. Here, we show that metabolic and genotoxic stresses, convergently acting through liver X nuclear receptor, upregulate CD38 to promote lysosomal cholesterol efflux, leading to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) depletion in macrophages. Cholesterol-mediated NAD depletion induces macrophage senescence, promoting key features of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), including subretinal lipid deposition and neurodegeneration.
