Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to evaluate the effects of VBP15, a steroidal compound, on reducing inflammation and symptoms of colitis in mice, as well as its impact on growth in juvenile mice.
  • - Experiments involved treating human intestinal epithelial cells with VBP15 and administering it to mice with induced colitis over specific periods to compare its effects against prednisolone.
  • - Results showed that VBP15 significantly reduced inflammatory markers and colitis symptoms, while causing less growth stunting compared to prednisolone, suggesting it could be a safer treatment for inflammatory bowel disease.

The quality of neuronal differentiation and reduction in apoptosis that occurred in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) culture conditions is compared. PC12 and embryonic stem cells are two commonly utilized cell lines for the study of neuronal regeneration. These cells were induced to neuronally differentiate by adding NGF and retinoic acid respectively.

Cannabinoid neuroprotection is usually greater in vivo than in neuronal cell culture systems. To the authors' knowledge, a good in vitro culture model for the neuroprotective effects of cannabinoids does not exist. Therefore, a 3-dimensional (3D) culture system was developed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of the cannabinoid receptor agonist WIN-55,212-2 on apoptosis of differentiated PC12 cells, caused by the organophosphorus compounds paraoxon and diazinon.
