Background/objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic created many challenges for health services, particularly during lockdown periods. Asthma is one of the most common childhood conditions, and children with asthma are generally cared for in an outpatient setting. In regional Northwest Tasmania, during the COVID-19 lockdowns, asthma and allergy outpatient clinic services were transferred to a virtual platform in the form of telehealth appointments for routine consultations.

Objective: The objective of this scoping review will be to determine the breadth of literature exploring the perspectives and experiences of racialized students in entry-level health professional education programs.

The WHO recently published a Tobacco Knowledge Summary (TKS) synthesizing current evidence on tobacco and COPD, aiming to raise awareness among a broad audience of health care professionals. Purpose: This purpose of this quality improvement project was to develop and evaluate a protocol (intervention bundle) designed to prevent pressure injuries in patients admitted with SARS-CoV2 and required prone positioning.

Participants And Setting: The sample comprised 267 patients aged 18 years and older, who were admitted with SARS-CoV2 and required prone positioning. Their age ranged from 32 to 76 years; a majority (54%, n = 145) were intubated.

Unfractionated heparin (UFH) is commonly used for several life-threatening conditions requiring anticoagulant therapy but failure to reach therapeutic levels in 24 h can be associated with adverse outcomes. Use of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) may provide an alternative while providing superior outcomes as compared to UFH. We studied 100 patients who underwent UFH therapy for >24 h and found that theoretically 80 % were eligible for LMWH therapy.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) leads to brain damage, comprising both immediate primary damage and a subsequent cascade of secondary injury mechanisms. The primary injury results in localized brain damage, while the secondary damage initiates inflammatory responses, followed by the disruption of the blood-brain barrier, infiltration of peripheral blood cells, brain edema, and the release of various immune mediators, including chemotactic factors and interleukins. TBI disrupts molecular signaling, cell structures, and functions.

Toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7) is known for eliciting immunity against single-stranded RNA viruses, and is increased in both human and cigarette smoke (CS)-induced, experimental chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Here we show that the severity of CS-induced emphysema and COPD is reduced in TLR7-deficient mice, while inhalation of imiquimod, a TLR7-agonist, induces emphysema without CS exposure. This imiquimod-induced emphysema is reduced in mice deficient in mast cell protease-6, or when wild-type mice are treated with the mast cell stabilizer, cromolyn.

The signaling of sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1) and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) regulates various diseases, including multiple sclerosis, atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation-related ailments, diabetes, and cancer. SphK1 is considered an attractive potential drug target and is extensively explored in cancer and other inflammatory diseases. γ-Terpinene, a monoterpene widely present in essential oils of many medicinal and aromatic plants with numerous biological properties, was evaluated for its insecticidal activity against melon fruit fly, Zeugodacus cucurbitae (Coquillett). Different concentrations (5, 25, 125, 625, and 3125 ppm) of γ-terpinene along with control were fed to larvae of melon fly. The number of pupae formed and adults emerged declined significantly after treatment.
