Multiple myeloma (MM) cells and osteoclasts (OCs) activate with each other to cause drug resistance. Human Th1-like Vγ9Vδ2 (γδ) T cells, important effectors against tumors, can be expanded and activated ex vivo by the aminobisphosphonate zoledronic acid in combination with IL-2. We previously reported that the expanded γδ T cells effectively targeted and killed OCs as well as MM cells.

Objectives: This study investigated the muscle fat fraction (FF) and muscle-related parameters before and after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
Methods: Fat and water signals were derived from the in-phase and out-of-phase MR signal intensities of the pelvis and thigh using the two-point Dixon technique. They were analysed using Synapse Vincent, and muscle quality was evaluated using the FF.
Background: Despite the widespread use of drug-coated balloons (DCBs) for femoropopliteal (FP) lesions, there is still no consensus on treatment strategies for DCB restenosis. This study aimed to determine the risk factors for recurrent restenosis after repeat DCB therapy for DCB restenosis in FP lesions.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective study assessed 1176 consecutive limbs in 860 patients who successfully received initial DCB therapy for FP lesions at four cardiovascular centers between May 2018 and December 2022.
The field of aging biology, which aims to extend healthy lifespans and prevent age-related diseases, has turned its focus to the Callithrix jacchus (common marmoset) to understand the aging process better. This study utilized magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to non-invasively analyze the brains of 216 marmosets, investigating age-related changes in brain structure; the relationship between body weight and brain volume; and potential differences between males and females. The key findings revealed that, similar to humans, Callithrix jacchus experiences a reduction in total intracranial volume, cortex, subcortex, thalamus, and cingulate volumes as they age, highlighting site-dependent changes in brain tissue.

The treatment options for malignant lymphoma (ML) and toxoplasmic encephalitis (TE) are completely different; therefore, their discrimination is critical. A 25-year-old female of foreign nationality had been experiencing headaches for several weeks and suddenly developed convulsions.

This remains an insurmountable clinical issue that must be addressed by development of novel modalities to revitalize anti-MM immunity. Human Vγ9Vδ2 T (Vδ2 γδ T) cells serve as the first line of defense against pathogens as well as tumors and can be expanded ex vivo from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) upon treatment with amino-bisphosphonates in combination with IL-2.

Methods: Skeletal Muscle Index (SMI) was evaluated by bioimpedance analysis before and after chemotherapy in patients with haematological malignancies, and the association between muscle mass and clinical data was retrospectively analysed.
Results: Exactly 104 patients were enrolled, with a mean age of 62.
Background: Variations in hepatic arteries are frequently encountered during pancreatoduodenecomy. Identifying anomalies, especially the problematic aberrant right hepatic artery (aRHA), is crucial to preventing vascular-related complications. In cases where the middle hepatic artery (MHA) branches from aRHAs, their injury may lead to severe liver ischemia.

We investigated the mechanisms underlying multiple myeloma (MM) cell resistance to PIs. To mimic their pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) profiles, MM cells were treated with bortezomib and carfilzomib for 1 h at concentrations up to 400 and 1,000 nM, respectively.

The aim of this study was to investigate the usefulness of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) for the preoperative detection of ≥T2 invasion in patients with suspected GBC.
Methods: Twenty-four patients who underwent resection for suspected GBC were enrolled.
The Impella, a percutaneous left ventricular assist device, has been reported to minimize the risk of hemodynamic compromise and improve clinical outcomes during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in complex high-risk indicated patients (CHIPs). Optical coherence tomography (OCT) provides information on calcified plaque thickness, which is helpful in determining the indication and endpoint of atherectomy during PCI for calcified lesions. However, there are few reports on OCT-guided aggressive rotational atherectomy with Impella assistance in CHIPs.

The NF-κB and interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) signalling pathways are among the critical survival pathways for the progression of ATL. TGF-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1), an IκB kinase-activating kinase, triggers the activation of NF-κB.

Here, we report a case of VZV encephalitis after adult ABO-incompatible living donor liver transplantation (LDLT). A 38-year-old man with decompensated liver cirrhosis caused by the hepatitis C virus was referred to our hospital as an LDLT candidate.

Most prior in vitro studies on PIs used continuous exposure to low PI concentrations, although pharmacokinetic analysis in patients has shown that serum concentrations of PIs change in a pulsatile manner. In the present study, we explored the effects of pulsatile treatment with PIs on bone metabolism to simulate in vivo PI pharmacokinetics.

Xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) is a rate-limiting enzyme in purine catabolism that acts as a novel regulator of adipogenesis. In pathological states, xanthine oxidoreductase activity increases to produce excess reactive oxygen species (ROS). The nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a critical inducer of antioxidants, which is bound and repressed by a kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) in the cytoplasm.

We herein examined the role of histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) in the constitutive activation of the master transcription factor IRF4 and the prosurvival mediator PIM2 kinase in MM cells. The knockdown or inhibition of HDAC1 by the class I HDAC inhibitor MS-275 reduced the basal expression of IRF4 and PIM2 in MM cells.

During the median follow-up of 17 months, SRE occurred in 6 out of 52 newly diagnosed patients and in 5 out of 23 relapsed/refractory patients. Bone fractures occurred by falling down due to orthostatic hypotension and/or muscle weakness in three out of four cases with amyloid light-chain (AL) amyloidosis.
