Low birth weight and head circumference as potential biomarkers of sensorineural hearing loss in asymptomatic congenitally CMV-infected infants.

Background: Congenital cytomegalovirus infection (cCMV) represents the most common viral congenital infection and non-genetic cause of childhood sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Newborns with symptomatic cCMV disease are at high risk for long term neurologic sequalae. However, most newborns with cCMV are asymptomatic and have a significantly better prognosis.

ANGIOID STREAKS: A Comprehensive Review From Pathophysiology to Treatment.

Purpose: To stratify the literature on angioid streaks, from pathophysiology to treatment.

Methods: Review of the current literature.

Results: Angioid streaks are crack-like dehiscences of Bruch membrane, which may coexist with systemic diseases, such as pseudoxanthoma elasticum, Paget disease, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, hemoglobinopathies, or other diseases of the collagen.

Incomplete Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease following treatment with encorafenib and binimetinib for metastatic melanoma.

Ophthalmological complications constitute a class effect of treatment with BRAF inhibitors. Encorafenib is a new BRAF inhibitor currently being tested in phase 3 clinical trials for advanced or metastatic melanoma as monotherapy or in combination with the MEK-inhibitor binimetinib. In this study, we present a case of severe bilateral panuveitis and neurosensory hearing loss in an elderly patient treated with encorafenib and binimetinib for metastatic BRAF-mutant melanoma.

Ectopic thymoma of the lung; a rare case report and review of the literature.

Introduction: Ectopic thymoma is a rare neoplasm, which can be developed in various sites, with the lung being amongst the rarest.

Case Presentation: In this paper, we present the case of a woman with a slow-growing ectopic thymoma, stemming from the visceral pleura of the upper lobe of the left lung anteriorly, extending into the left lung and the cardiac wall, invading the fatty tissue near the pericardium, notably without infiltrating the lung or cardiac parenchyma. The thymoma was successfully removed via thoracotomy.
