Much of the genetic variance associated with osteoporosis is still unknown. Bone mineral density (BMD) is the main predictor of osteoporosis risk, although other anthropometric phenotypes have recently gained importance. The aim of this study was to analyze the association of SNPs in genes involved in osteoblast differentiation and function with BMD, body mass index (BMI), and waist (WC) and hip (HC) circumferences.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is the main cause of acute hepatitis globally, and the diagnosis of acute infection typically relies on detecting anti-HEV antibodies.
  • In a study of patients with past acute hepatitis E and blood donors with HEV RNA, findings showed that while HEV RNA became undetectable after a median follow-up of 34 months, anti-HEV IgM persisted in a significant portion of patients.
  • HEV-Ag tests demonstrated the best performance, indicating high predictive value, and could be crucial in situations where HEV RNA testing is not accessible.

  • * Researchers applied a new testing protocol to analyze samples from 220 patients across various Spanish hospitals, finding that 88.6% had at least one RAS, with specific patterns linked to different HCV subtypes.
  • * The findings reveal that certain patients had RAS not affected by the drugs they received, indicating the necessity for thorough RAS testing, especially since ribavirin treatment did not impact RAS diversity or type.
