Designing Newer Omega-3 Supplementation Trials for Cognitive Outcomes: A Systematic Review Guided Analysis.

Background: Epidemiology cohorts reveal associations between levels or intake of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) and a lower risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the results of randomized clinical trials have been inconsistent.

Objective: A systematic review was performed to understand the effects of n-3 PUFA supplementation on cognition in adults.

Hyperpolarization-activated currents drive neuronal activation sequences in sleep.

Sequential neuronal patterns are believed to support information processing in the cortex, yet their origin is still a matter of debate. We report that neuronal activity in the mouse postsubiculum (PoSub), where a majority of neurons are modulated by the animal's head direction, was sequentially activated along the dorsoventral axis during sleep at the transition from hyperpolarized "DOWN" to activated "UP" states, while representing a stable direction. Computational modeling suggested that these dynamics could be attributed to a spatial gradient of hyperpolarization-activated currents (I), which we confirmed in ex vivo slice experiments and corroborated in other cortical structures.

Contribution of household dishwashing to microplastic pollution.

At household level, clothes washing has been recognised as an emitter of microplastics (MPs) into the environment and it is supposed that dishwashing is also a source of MPs, although little attention has been paid so far. In this work, the emission of MPs released from dishwashing procedures at household level has been studied. The effect of different parameters such as time, temperature and type of detergent has been analysed.
