MRI-only breast cancers are less aggressive than cancers identifiable on conventional imaging.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has a superior sensitivity for the diagnosis of breast cancer, leading to lesions primarily detected by MRI. Some of these lesions cannot be identified by targeted second-look ultrasound (SLUS) examinations and are thus referred to as MRI-only lesions. We hypothesize that biologically more aggressive cancers lead to more distinct tissue damage improving visibility on SLUS.

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in deep learning, has significantly impacted radiology, introducing an array of AI solutions for interpretative tasks. This paper provides radiology departments with a practical guide for selecting and integrating AI solutions, focusing on interpretative tasks that require the active involvement of radiologists. Our approach is not to list available applications or review scientific evidence, as this information is readily available in previous studies; instead, we concentrate on the essential factors radiology departments must consider when choosing AI solutions.

The predictive value of systemic inflammatory markers in 902 patients with tunneled hemodialysis catheter.

Aim: This study aimed to assess the predictive role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio, and mean platelet volume, on catheter survival in chronic hemodialysis patients, analyzing both infectious and non-infectious complications.

Methods: A retrospective analysis encompassed 1279 tunneled catheter insertion procedures involving 902 patients between March 2014 and October 2018. Patients were categorized into two main groups: (i) initial placement and (ii) exchange.

Methods: This study included 32 patients with 64 side cochleae diagnosed with IP defect and 38 cochleae as the control without any defect. Background: A valid measure to describe the most important needs and concerns of people with life-threatening illnesses is missing in Cyprus. Our aim was to adapt and test the cross-cultural validity and responsiveness of the Integrated Palliative care Outcome Scale (IPOS) in a cohort of Turkish speaking cancer patients.

Methods: The IPOS (English) patient-reported measure was translated into Turkish following published guidelines including, 2 independent forward, 2 independent blind backward translations, expert panel review by 7 members and field testing with 11 cognitive interviews (5 patients and 6 specialists) and final approval of the copyright holder.

A hypokalemic muscular weakness after licorice ingestion: a case report.

A 21-year-old male presented to the emergency department with the complaint of muscle weakness. The patient had used a powderized over-the-counter product named 'Tekumut' for 2 weeks to quit smoking. The granulated product was studied and determined to contain 'licorice' containing glycyrrhizic acid.

The free deltoid flap: clinical applications to upper extremity, lower extremity, and maxillary defects.

The deltoid free flap is a thin, reliable flap that is easily dissected from the posterolateral arm. It has large-caliber vessels and is capable of sensory reinnervation to portions of the flap above the deltoid/triceps groove through the lateral brachial cutaneous nerve. There is little sensory return to the large vascular territory, which can be extended inferiorly below the deltoid triceps groove.

Multi-organ toxicity following ingestion of mixed herbal preparations: an unusual but dangerous adverse effect of phytotherapy.

Although herbal remedies are marketed as natural products, they can be associated with severe adverse effects. We report a case of multi-organ toxicity including acute renal failure due to rhabdomyolysis, acute hepatitis-like hepatotoxicity, and cardiotoxicity accompanied by angio-edema in a Turkish male patient after ingestion of mixed Chinese herbs. Hypersensitivity reactions may be a possible mechanism of pathogenesis in multi-organ toxicity associated with phytotherapy.

The gluteal perforator-based flap in repair of pressure sores.

The gluteal perforator-based flap is designed according to the localisation of sacral perforator vessels. These vessels penetrate the gluteus maximus muscle and reach the intrafascial and suprafascial planes, and the overlying skin forming a rich vascular plexus. The gluteal perforator-based flaps described in this paper are highly-vascularised, have minimal donor site morbidity, do not require the sacrifice of the gluteus maximus muscle and rarely lead to post-operative complications.
