Electronic waste (e-waste) is a global problem, and many countries have established laws and regulations to promote its proper disposal and recycling. E-waste contains a significant content of printed circuit boards (PCBs), composed of metals and other valuable metals that may become scarce in Earth's crust - Copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), gold (Au), silver (Ag), palladium (Pd), and others. The main objective of this review is to explore the potential for producing nanoparticles (NPs) from the metals extracted through PCB recycling, with applications in the cosmetics, cement manufacturing, and carbon dioxide (CO) capture industries.

Hyperthermic nanomedicines are particularly relevant for tackling human cancer, providing a valuable alternative to conventional therapeutics. The early-stage preclinical performance evaluation of such anti-cancer treatments is conventionally performed in flat 2D cell cultures that do not mimic the volumetric heat transfer occurring in human tumors. Recently, improvements in bioengineered 3D models have unlocked the opportunity to recapitulate major tumor microenvironment hallmarks and generate highly informative readouts that can contribute to accelerating the discovery and validation of efficient hyperthermic treatments.

Starting from an analysis of the scientific and political uses of the concept of informal care, this paper raises questions and launches the debate on the causes and effects of its uses. Recognizing the diversity and the contradictions found across the use of the term, it explains how its predominant use in Europe can be problematic. First, although it is widely recognized that care is provided primarily by women, this gender dimension is not emphasized in a concept that obscures the sexual division.

A novel dual-reflection configuration is introduced for the International Tokamak Experimental Reactor (ITER) core x-ray spectrometer to fit the allocated space where it will be placed accompanied by moving the detectors backward to reduce the incident radiation dose. The highly oriented pyrolytic graphite, which has a mosaic structure of microscopic crystallites, is chosen for the front reflector motivated by higher x-ray throughput and stronger misalignment tolerance compared to the perfect crystal reflector. In the ITER core x-ray spectrometer, a combination of several reflector-deflected Lines of Sight (LOSs) and a direct LOS is proposed for the first time named X-Ray Crystal Spectroscopy Core (XRCS-Core).

Augmented and Virtual Reality approaches are getting more and more advanced and consequently their use in various real world areas is increasing. Medicine is one of the fields in which more practical applications are surfacing, mainly approaches that enable new forms of visualization of data obtained from real patients. Our work focuses on providing a new simple, practical and efficient way to visualize the brain of a patient, both in an Augmented Reality and in a Virtual Reality approach, through a smartphone application.
