Introduction Health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) is recognized as an important predictor of mortality and morbidity in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients receiving hemodialysis (HD). The goal of this study was to obtain HR-QoL scores using the Kidney Disease and Quality of Life questionnaire (KDQOL-36) (RAND Corporation, Santa Monica, CA) and to assess the factors affecting HR-QoL in ESRD patients receiving HD. Methods A multicenter cross-sectional study was performed using the KDQOL-36 for the assessment of HR-QoL of ESRD patients receiving HD in Northern Cypriot state hospitals.

Background: Surgical site infections (SSI) are characterized by infections occurring in the surgical incision site, organ or cavity in the postoperative period. Adherence to surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis (SAP) is paramount in mitigating the occurrence of SSIs. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the appropriateness of SAP use in patients undergoing surgical procedures in the field of general surgery according to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) guideline and to determine the difference between the pre-training period (pre-TP) and the post-training period (post-TP) organized according to this guideline.

Background: Despite the risks of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in surgical patients are well defined, primary thromboprophylaxis (TP) can be neglected. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of VTE and appropriateness of TP and to assess the effects of education and clinical pharmacy (CP) services.

Methods: This study was conducted in a total of 3 periods (n = 800): pre-education (n = 340), post-education (n = 269) and CP intervention period (n = 191) and the risk of VTE and the appropriateness of TP were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the effectiveness of uncultured cell spray versus traditional skin grafting methods in treating deep second-degree burns in rats.
  • This experimental research was conducted at Hacettepe University over a two-year period, involving 24 Wistar albino rats divided into four groups for testing.
  • Findings showed that the healing results, inflammation levels, and blood vessel formation were similar between the uncultured cell spray and the skin graft, indicating that the spray method could serve as a viable alternative treatment for burns.

Objectives: To identify published evidence on person-centered outcome measures (PCOMs) used in dementia care and to explore how PCOMs facilitate shared decision-making and improve outcomes of care. To build a logic model based on the findings, depicting linkages with PCOM impact mechanisms and care outcomes.

Design: Mixed-methods systematic review.

Advanced glycation end-products (AGE) are complex compounds formed by nonenzymatic glycosylation of proteins, nucleic acids, and lipids with glucose in the blood. We aimed to investigate whether there was a difference in first-trimester serum AGE levels of pregnant women with and without risk factors for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and their obstetric outcomes. There were 44 women in study group who have risk factors for GDM and 44 as controls.

Article Synopsis
  • Unplanned hospital admissions are a significant issue for individuals diagnosed with dementia, with 76.8% experiencing such admissions at some point from diagnosis to death in a study of 19,221 patients in London.
  • The study found that while the rates and duration of hospital stays were low shortly after diagnosis, they increased substantially in the months leading up to death.
  • Results emphasize the urgent need for better community care and support services for dementia patients as they approach end-of-life care.

Introduction: Understanding costs of care for people dying with dementia is essential to guide service development, but information has not been systematically reviewed. We aimed to understand (1) which cost components have been measured in studies reporting the costs of care in people with dementia approaching the end of life, (2) what the costs are and how they change closer to death, and (3) which factors are associated with these costs.

Methods: We searched the electronic databases CINAHL, Medline, Cochrane, Web of Science, EconLit, and Embase and reference lists of included studies.

Background: Robust quality indicators (QIs) are essential for monitoring and improving the quality of care and learning from good practice. We aimed to identify and assess QIs for the care of older people and people with dementia who are nearing the end of life and recommend QIs for use with routinely collected electronic data across care settings.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted, including five databases and reference chaining.
