[Ulcerative colitis diagnosed with facial pyoderma gangrenosum: a case report].

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a sterile inflammatory skin condition that is frequently associated with immune-related diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). PG causes noninfectious ulcers. Facial PG is uncommon while PG usually occurs on the trunk and lower limbs.

Fast simulation for multi-photon, atomic-ensemble quantum model of linear optical systems addressing the curse of dimensionality.

Photons are elementary particles of light in quantum mechanics, whose dynamics can be difficult to gain detailed insights, especially in complex systems. Simulation is a promising tool to resolve this issue, but it must address the curse of dimensionality, namely, that the number of bases increases exponentially in the number of photons. Here we mitigate this dimensionality scaling by focusing on optical systems composed of linear optical objects, modeled as an ensemble of two-level atoms.

Reversing Unknown Qubit-Unitary Operation, Deterministically and Exactly.

We report a deterministic and exact protocol to reverse any unknown qubit-unitary operation, which simulates the time inversion of a closed qubit system. To avoid known no-go results on universal deterministic exact unitary inversion, we consider the most general class of protocols transforming unknown unitary operations within the quantum circuit model, where the input unitary operation is called multiple times in sequence and fixed quantum circuits are inserted between the calls. In the proposed protocol, the input qubit-unitary operation is called 4 times to achieve the inverse operation, and the output state in an auxiliary system can be reused as a catalyst state in another run of the unitary inversion.

[Ulcerative colitis complicated by multiple aseptic subcutaneous abscesses: a case report].

A woman in her 40s, previously diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), presented with anterior chest pain. A CT scan of her chest and skin examination showed no abnormal findings. She was initially managed with antibacterial agents, but her chest pain worsened, she developed a fever, and there was an overall deterioration of her general condition.

Success-or-Draw: A Strategy Allowing Repeat-Until-Success in Quantum Computation.

The repeat-until-success strategy is a standard method to obtain success with a probability that grows exponentially with the number of iterations. However, since quantum systems are disturbed after a quantum measurement, how to perform repeat-until-success strategies in certain quantum algorithms is not straightforward. In this Letter, we propose a new structure for probabilistic higher-order transformation named success-or-draw, which allows a repeat-until-success implementation.

Real-world efficacy and safety of 12-week sofosbuvir/velpatasvir treatment for patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C virus infection.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the real-world efficacy and safety of 12-week sofosbuvir/velpatasvir (SOF/VEL) treatment for patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

Methods: A total 72 of patients with Child-Pugh (CP) class B or C were enrolled. We evaluated the sustained virologic response at 12 weeks after the end of treatment (SVR12), adverse events (AEs), and changes in the liver function.

Reversing Unknown Quantum Transformations: Universal Quantum Circuit for Inverting General Unitary Operations.

Given a quantum gate implementing a d-dimensional unitary operation U_{d}, without any specific description but d, and permitted to use k times, we present a universal probabilistic heralded quantum circuit that implements the exact inverse U_{d}^{-1}, whose failure probability decays exponentially in k. The protocol employs an adaptive strategy, proven necessary for the exponential performance. It requires that k≥d-1, proven necessary for the exact implementation of U_{d}^{-1} with quantum circuits.

Complexity of Causal Order Structure in Distributed Quantum Information Processing: More Rounds of Classical Communication Reduce Entanglement Cost.

We prove a trade-off relation between the entanglement cost and classical communication round complexity of a protocol in implementing a class of two-qubit unitary gates by two distant parties, a key subroutine in distributed quantum information processing. The task is analyzed in an information theoretic scenario of asymptotically many input pairs with a small error that is required to vanish sufficiently quickly. The trade-off relation is shown by (i) one ebit of entanglement per pair is necessary for implementing the unitary by any two-round protocol, and (ii) the entanglement cost by a three-round protocol is strictly smaller than one ebit per pair.

A new mutation of congenital methemoglobinemia exacerbated after methylene blue treatment.

Case: Methylene blue is useful for the treatment of methemoglobinemia. However, even after the patient's methemoglobin (metHb) rate has improved, careful observation is important because they could have undiagnosed congenital methemoglobinemia. In this case, a 67-year-old man underwent gastrointestinal endoscopy with the use of lidocaine for local anesthesia.

Current trends in mouse models of glioblastoma.

Glioblastoma is the most deadly brain tumor type and is characterized by a severe and high rate of angiogenesis, remaining an incurable disease in the majority of cases. Mechanistic understanding of glioblastoma initiation and progression is complicated by the complexity of genetic and/or environmental initiating events and lack of clarity regarding the cell or tissue of origin. To determine these mechanisms, mouse models that recapitulate the molecular and histological characteristics of glioblastoma are required.

The p38 signaling pathway mediates quiescence of glioma stem cells by regulating epidermal growth factor receptor trafficking.

EGFR pathway is upregulated in malignant gliomas, and its downstream signaling is important for self-renewal of glioma cancer stem-like cells (GSC). p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling, a stress-activated signaling cascade with suppressive and permissive effects on tumorigenesis, can promote internalization and ubiquitin ligase mediated degradation of EGFR. In this study, we investigated the role of p38 MAPK signaling on the self-renewal of GSCs with the hypothesis that inhibition may lead to enhanced self-renewal capacity by retention of EGFR.

Feasibility and short-term impact of the "case study in-house group training program for family nursing" at medical facilities.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility and short-term impact of case study training in family nursing care targeting midlevel nursing professionals. The intervention group participated in four 90-minute case study training sessions over 6 months, while the control group participated in two 90-minute lectures. Using primary outcome variables as evaluation indexes, we measured the participants' total scores on the Family Importance in Nursing Care Scale and 4 subitems 3 times (before, immediately after and 1 month after training) from May 2014 to March 2015 and then conducted 2-way repeated-measure analysis of variance.

Collagenous gastroduodenitis coexisting repeated Dieulafoy ulcer: A case report and review of collagenous gastritis and gastroduodenitis without colonic involvement.

Collagenous gastritis (CG) is a rare disorder characterized by the thick collagenous subepithelial bands associated with mucosal inflammation. There have been approximately fifty reports in the literature since it was first described in 1989. According to previous reports, CG is heterogeneous and classified into two groups-(1) cases limited to the gastric mucosa in children or young adults, and (2) CG associated with collagenous colitis in elderly adults presenting with chronic watery diarrhea.

Quantum algorithm for universal implementation of the projective measurement of energy.

A projective measurement of energy (PME) on a quantum system is a quantum measurement determined by the Hamiltonian of the system. PME protocols exist when the Hamiltonian is given in advance. Unknown Hamiltonians can be identified by quantum tomography, but the time cost to achieve a given accuracy increases exponentially with the size of the quantum system.

The evidence of glioblastoma heterogeneity.

Cancers are composed of heterogeneous combinations of cells that exhibit distinct phenotypic characteristics and proliferative potentials. Because most cancers have a clonal origin, cancer stem cells (CSCs) must generate phenotypically diverse progenies including mature CSCs that can self-renew indefinitely and differentiated cancer cells that possess limited proliferative potential. However, no convincing evidence exists to suggest that only single CSCs are representative of patients' tumors.

Novel neuromuscular electrical stimulation system for treatment of dysphagia after brain injury.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a novel neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to the effects of conventional treatment in patients with dysphagia after brain injury. In total, 26 patients were non-randomly divided into an experimental group (n = 12) and a control group (n = 14). The experimental group received NMES intervention followed by conventional treatment, including thermaltactile stimulation with intensive repetition of a dry-swallow task.

Contextuality in bosonic bunching.

In the classical probability theory a sum of probabilities of three pairwise exclusive events is always bounded by one. This is also true in quantum mechanics if these events are represented by pairwise orthogonal projectors. However, this might not be true if the three events refer to a system of indistinguishable particles.

A randomized phase II study comparing S-1 plus weekly split-dose cisplatin with S-1 plus standard-dose cisplatin as first-line chemotherapy for advanced gastric cancer.

Background: S-1 plus weekly split-dose cisplatin demonstrated promising results in previous phase I and II studies for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) patients.

Methods: In this randomized phase II study, the efficacy and safety of S-1 plus weekly split-dose cisplatin (SWP, S-1 daily oral dose of 80-120 mg according to body surface area on days 1-14, and cisplatin 20 mg/m(2) i.v.

[Percutaneous removal of a large calculus in Indiana pouch using a laparoscopic entrapment bag].

A 67-year-old man was referred to our hospital for evaluation of large urinary-diversion calculus. He had undergone urinary diversion for invasive bladder cancer with an Indiana pouch, when he was 52 years old. We performed the surgery using a laparoscopic trocar and an entrapment bag, for reducing the risk of bladder damage by the lithoclast and small residual fragments of the calculus.
