TaRhB and NbRhB: Superconductors with a chiral noncentrosymmetric crystal structure.

It is a fundamental truth in solid compounds that the physical properties follow the symmetry of the crystal structure. Nowhere is the effect of symmetry more pronounced than in the electronic and magnetic properties of materials-even the projection of the bulk crystal symmetry onto different crystal faces is known to have a substantial impact on the surface electronic states. The effect of bulk crystal symmetry on the properties of superconductors is widely appreciated, although its study presents substantial challenges.

The statokinesiometry in evaluation of the balance system in persons with chronic carbon disulphide intoxication.

In the group of 37 patients with chronic carbon disulphide (CS2) intoxication manifested by encephalopathy, polyneuropathy or psycho-organic syndrome and complaining for vertigo, a statokinesiometric test was performed with open and closed eyes, and with visual stimulation. Basic test parameters of stabilograms and statokinesiograms were compared with standard values of the control group. Results of the test were additionally verified by electronystagmography with the recording of spontaneous, positional, optokinetic and post-rotatory nystagmus as well as the eye-tracking test.

[Evaluation of the respiratory system function in girls from the Textile Technical College in Lódź (II)].

The work in textile industry is a risk factor of the development of chronic non-specific diseases of the respiratory tract. Thus the vocational selection for the posts in this industry should particularly take into account the health status of the applying youths. The subjects of the study were 35 girls from Textile Technical College and 42 girls from Grammar School (control group).

[Evaluation of somatic development, physical fitness and motor skills of girls from the Textile Technical College in Lódź (I)].

Thirty-five girls from a technical college (TC) and forty-five from a grammar school (GS) (a control group) were included in a long-term examination. Somatic traits have been investigated for 4 years, while aerobic capacity and motor efficiency have been studied for 3 years. The preliminary selection was noticed in girls--candidates to technical college and grammar school.

[Evaluation of the development of the respiratory system in big-city adolescents, e.g., students of the Technical School of Mechanics and the Grammar School in Lódź (II)].

In 104 students from Secondary Technical School of Mechanics (TM) and 37 students from Grammar School (LO, 15-19 year-old, a longitudinal study of respiratory system was carried out. During the whole period of studies such spirographic parameters as VC, FEV1, FIV1, IMBC and Ziemssen and Amar indices were assessed. Spirographic parameters were assessed on the Pulmotest Godard.

[Evaluation of motor skills of adolescents from a large city environment attending the Technical School of Mechanical Engineering and the Grammar School in Lódź].

A long-term study on the motor skills of juveniles was carried out. The subjects were 104 students from the Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering (SSME) and 37 from Grammar School (GS). The subjects from each of the schools were divided into two subgroups: those undergoing training in a sporting club (sport group--SG) and those who did not practise any sports in an organised way (non-sport group--NSG).

The excretion of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, after work load, was studied. The physical effort evoked an increase in the excretion of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid. Under the control conditions no changes in the excretion of the investigated metabolite were found.

The construction of a pressure transducer for acute experiments is described. The transducer is intended for direct recording of arterial and venous blood pressure in animals. The characteristics of arterial and venous blood pressure records obtained with a mercury manometer by the classic method and with the transducer are compared.
