Hard ticks are known vectors of various pathogens, including the severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus, Rickettsia spp., Coxiella burnetii, Borrelia spp., Anaplasma phagocytophilum, and Ehrlichia spp.

Effectiveness of Different Washing Strategies on Pesticide Residue Removal: The First Comparative Study on Leafy Vegetables.

Leafy vegetables are used in various cuisines worldwide; however, as they cannot be peeled and their leaf surface area is large, the risk of retaining pesticide residues on these vegetables is relatively higher than on others. To our knowledge, this is the first comparative study to reveal the effect of removing pesticide residues from five artificially contaminated leafy vegetables (lettuce, perilla leaves, spinach, crown daisy, and ssamchoo (Brassica lee ssp. namai)) using different removal methods.

Surgical approach and orthodontic treatment of mandibular condylar osteochondroma.

Osteochondroma is a common benign tumor of bones, but it is rare in the mandibular condyle. With its outgrowth it manifests clinically as deviation of the mandible limitation of mouth opening, and facial asymmetry. After the tumor is diagnosed on the basis of clinical symptoms and radiographic examination including cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) analysis, an appropriate surgery and treatment plan should be formulated.

Growth observation and orthodontic treatment of a hemifacial microsomia patient treated with distraction osteogenesis.

Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) patients may experience emotional withdrawal during their growth period due to their abnormal facial appearance. Distraction osteogenesis at an early age to improve their appearance can encourage these patients. Some abnormalities of the affected side can be overcome by distraction osteogenesis at an early age.

Thermostable CITase from Thermoanaerobacter thermocopriae shows negative cooperativity.

Objective: The biochemical properties of a putative thermostable cycloisomaltooligosaccharide (CI) glucanotransferase gene from Thermoanaerobacter thermocopriae were determined using a recombinant protein (TtCITase) expressed in Escherichia coli and purified to a single protein.

Results: The 171-kDa protein displayed maximum activity at pH 6.0, and enzyme activity was stable at pH 5.
