Objectives: We analyzed the dosage pattern of anesthetic drugs administered to maintain anesthesia during rigid bronchoscopy.

Methods: We enrolled a total of 81 patients who underwent rigid bronchoscopy under total intravenous anesthesia between April 2015 and March 2019. Anesthesia was maintained using propofol (target brain concentration 2.

Introduction: Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS; or eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis) is an extremely rare autoimmune condition characterized by hypereosinophilia and vasculitis of small or medium-sized blood vessels, occurring in patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Case Presentation: A 47-year-old man (height, 175.8 cm and weight, 74.

Background: The concept of the effect-site concentration of anesthetic agents is important. The effect compartment model can be explained using the concepts of effect-site concentration and effect-site equilibration rate constant (). This study confirms that the time-to-peak effect ( ) can be measured easily in clinical practice by applying a priming dose and train-of-four (TOF) during general anesthesia induction, and can be calculated from the of the four muscle relaxants that are commonly used in general anesthesia.

Background: Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is an α2-adrenergic receptor agonist with sedative and sympatholytic effects. It inhibits the stress response and insulin secretion. Therefore, postoperative changes to blood glucose levels were investigated when DEX was intraoperatively infused for sedation purposes in diabetic patients under spinal anesthesia.

Background: Unilateral lung hyperinflation develops in lungs with asymmetric compliance, which can lead to vital instability. The aim of this study was to investigate the respiratory dynamics and the effect of airway diameter on the distribution of tidal volume during mechanical ventilation in a lung model with asymmetric compliance.

Methods: Three groups of lung models were designed to simulate lungs with a symmetric and asymmetric compliance.

The beneficial effects of dexmedetomidine (DEX) have not been extensively investigated in elderly patients receiving spinal anesthesia. This study evaluated the effects of intravenous DEX infusion on stress and hemodynamic response, as well as on postoperative analgesia in elderly patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We randomly allocated 45 adult patients to 3 patient groups (n=15 each): uni-saline group patients underwent unilateral TKA with saline administration, uni-DEX group patients underwent unilateral TKA with DEX administration, and bilateral-DEX group patients underwent bilateral TKA with DEX administration.

Purpose: Controlled hypotension (CH) is a well-established technique to decrease blood loss and improve surgical visibility. Although nitroprusside and remifentanil have been safely and effectively used for this purpose, the hemodynamic changes that occur during CH are unclear. This study compared the effects of nitroprusside and remifentanil on hemodynamics using a noninvasive cardiac output monitor (Cheetah NICOM(®); Cheetah Medical Inc.

Salmonella spondylitis is a rare illness, and it generally occurs in patients who have already had sickle cell anemia, and it is even rarer in patients who are without sickle cell anemia. A 61-year-old male patient was hospitalized for the evaluation of his renal function and then treatment was started for his back pain. His back pain had developed about 2 months previously without any specific trauma.
