Objectives: We aimed to compare the success rate, adverse drug events, and cost-effectiveness of tailored eradication and modified bismuth-containing quadruple therapy.
Methods: The diagnosis of infection was randomly based on either rapid urease test (RUT) or dual priming oligonucleotide (DPO)-based multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 1:1 ratio. According to the presence of point mutations that cause clarithromycin resistance, patients in the tailored therapy (TT) group received standard triple therapy or classic bismuth quadruple therapy.
Background/aim: We investigated alterations in the expression of serum exosomal miRNAs with the progression of liver fibrosis and evaluated their clinical applicability as biomarkers.
Methods: This study prospectively enrolled 71 patients who underwent liver biopsy at an academic hospital in Korea. Exosomes were extracted from serum samples, followed by next-generation sequencing (NGS) of miRNAs and targeted real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction.
We studied broad-spectrum light emitting diodes appropriate for special lighting applications in terms of their optical behaviors and device performances according to the chirped multi-quantum well structures. As the well thickness from 1 st to 3rd well was changed from 6 nm to 15 nm and repeated three times, the electroluminescent spectrum was broadened by 65% and the light output power was increased by 8% in comparison to light emitting diodes having conventional multi-quantum well structures. In the case of the chirped multi-quantum well structures having sequentially decreasing the well thickness from 15 nm to 6 nm and repeating three times, the optical output power was decreased by 5% due to the carrier leakage out of the active region.

Background & Aims: Besifovir dipivoxil maleate (BSV) has activity against hepatitis B virus (HBV). We performed a phase 3 study to compare the antiviral efficacy and safety of BSV vs tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) in patients with chronic HBV infection in Korea.

Rationale: Adrenal myelolipomas are rare benign tumors, composed of a variable mixture of mature adipose tissue and hematopoietic tissue. These tumors are frequently detected incidentally and are usually asymptomatic, and hormonally inactive.
Patient Concerns: During a routine health checkup, a 52-year-old man was found to have a tumor on the bilateral adrenal glands.
Objective: To show the effect of dual monitoring including cardiac output (CO) and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring for severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) patiens. We hypothesized that meticulous treatment using dual monitoring is effective to sustain maintain minimal intensive care unit (ICU) complications and maintain optimal ICP and cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) for severe TBI patiens.
Methods: We included severe TBI, below Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) 8 and head abbreviation injury scale (AIS) >4 and performed decompressive craniectomy at trauma ICU of our hospital.
Background/aims: Recent studies have demonstrated the utility of the FibroScan® device in diagnosing liver steatosis, but its usefulness has not been thoroughly appraised. We investigated the usefulness of the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) in detecting and quantifying liver steatosis.
Methods: A prospective analysis was applied to 79 chronic liver disease patients who underwent a liver biopsy, a FibroScan investigation, ultrasonography, and hepatic steatosis index (HSI).

Using the x-ray tube voltage as a reference for energy calibration is known to be an efficient method, but there has been no consideration in the energy calibration of non-convergent behavior of PCSDs. We observed that a single pixel mode (SPM) CdTe PCSD based on Medipix-2 shows some non-convergent behaviors in turning off the detector elements when a high enough threshold is applied to the comparator that produces a binary photon count pulse.
