Measurement of the Higgs boson production rate in association with top quarks in final states with electrons, muons, and hadronically decaying tau leptons at .

The rate for Higgs ( ) bosons production in association with either one ( ) or two ( ) top quarks is measured in final states containing multiple electrons, muons, or tau leptons decaying to hadrons and a neutrino, using proton-proton collisions recorded at a center-of-mass energy of by the CMS experiment. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 137 . The analysis is aimed at events that contain , , or decays and each of the top quark(s) decays either to lepton+jets or all-jet channels.

Behind the mask: extended use of surgical masks is not associated with increased risk of surgical site infection.

Purpose: COVID-19 has prompted significant policy change, with critical attention to the conservation of personal protective equipment (PPE). An extended surgical mask use policy was implemented at our institution, allowing use of one disposable mask per each individual, per day, for all the cases. We investigate the clinical impact of this policy change and its effect on the rate of 30-day surgical site infection (SSI).

The mechanism of cell death induced by silver nanoparticles is distinct from silver cations.

Background: Precisely how silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) kill mammalian cells still is not fully understood. It is not clear if AgNP-induced damage differs from silver cation (Ag), nor is it known how AgNP damage is transmitted from cell membranes, including endosomes, to other organelles. Cells can differ in relative sensitivity to AgNPs or Ag, which adds another layer of complexity to identifying specific mechanisms of action.

Health Care Policy and Congenital Heart Disease: 2020 Focus on Our 2030 Future.

The congenital heart care community faces a myriad of public health issues that act as barriers toward optimum patient outcomes. In this article, we attempt to define advocacy and policy initiatives meant to spotlight and potentially address these challenges. Issues are organized into the following 3 key facets of our community: patient population, health care delivery, and workforce.

Observation of Forward Neutron Multiplicity Dependence of Dimuon Acoplanarity in Ultraperipheral Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV.

The first measurement of the dependence of γγ→μ^{+}μ^{-} production on the multiplicity of neutrons emitted very close to the beam direction in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions is reported. Data for lead-lead interactions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV, with an integrated luminosity of approximately 1.

Outpatient Botulinum Injections for Early Obstructive Symptoms in Patients with Hirschsprung Disease.

Introduction: Botulinum toxin (BT) injections may play a role in preventing Hirschsprung associated enterocolitis (HAEC) episodes related to internal anal sphincter (IAS dysfunction). Our aim was to determine the association of outpatient BT injections for early obstructive symptoms on the development of HAEC.

Methods: A retrospective review of children who underwent definitive surgery for Hirschsprung disease (HSCR) from July 2010 - July 2020 was performed.

Late effects in a high-risk population of breast cancer survivors.

Purpose: To better understand the impact of cancer and treatment on outcomes and guide program development, we evaluated breast cancer survivors at risk for long-term medical and psychosocial issues who participated in survivorship care visits (SVs) at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Methods: We conducted a prospective survey study of women with stage I-III breast cancer who participated in SVs from 2010-2016. The same 56-item questionnaire administered at SV and follow-up included an assessment of symptoms, social factors, demographics, anxiety, depression, and comorbidities.

Symptomatic atrial bigeminy masquerading as congenital complete heart block.

Newborn male with symptomatic bradycardia initially diagnosed with complete atrioventricular block. Isoproterenol drip was initiated, and the patient was scheduled for pacemaker implantation. During the hospital course, repeat electrocardiogram and Holter monitor revealed evidence of near continuous blocked atrial bigeminy with occasional aberrantly conducted premature atrial contractions.

Constraints on the Initial State of Pb-Pb Collisions via Measurements of Z-Boson Yields and Azimuthal Anisotropy at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV.

The CMS experiment at the LHC has measured the differential cross sections of Z bosons decaying to pairs of leptons, as functions of transverse momentum and rapidity, in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02  TeV. The measured Z boson elliptic azimuthal anisotropy coefficient is compatible with zero, showing that Z bosons do not experience significant final-state interactions in the medium produced in the collision.

Biomechanical Response of the Lower Extremity to Running-Induced Acute Fatigue: A Systematic Review.

To investigate (i) typical protocols used in research on biomechanical response to running-induced fatigue, (ii) the effect of sport-induced acute fatigue on the biomechanics of running and functional tests, and (iii) the consistency of analyzed parameter trends across different protocols. Scopus, Web of Science, Pubmed, and IEEE databases were searched using terms identified with the Population, Interest and Context (PiCo) framework. Studies were screened following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and appraised using the methodological index for non-randomized studies MINORS scale.

Low Doses of Silver Nanoparticles Selectively Induce Lipid Peroxidation and Proteotoxic Stress in Mesenchymal Subtypes of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

Molecular profiling of tumors shows that triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) can be stratified into mesenchymal (claudin-low breast cancer; CLBC) and epithelial subtypes (basal-like breast cancer; BLBC). Subtypes differ in underlying genetics and in response to therapeutics. Several reports indicate that therapeutic strategies that induce lipid peroxidation or proteotoxicity may be particularly effective for various cancers with a mesenchymal phenotype such as CLBC, for which no specific treatment regimens exist and outcomes are poor.

Connected skiing: Validation of edge angle and radial force estimation as motion quality parameters during alpine skiing.

Recent studies have developed wearable sensor systems to detect, classify and evaluate performance during alpine skiing. In order to enrich skiing data to provide motion quality feedback, edge angle (EA) and radial force (F) are parameters of interest. However, the estimation of these parameters via calibration-free wearable technologies has not been validated.

Return to Activity After SARS-CoV-2 Infection: Cardiac Clearance for Children and Adolescents.

Context: Sedentary behavior and inability to participate in organized physical activity has negatively affected the physical and mental health of children and adolescents; however, cardiac injury and associated risk for sudden cardiac death with return to activity remains a major concern. Guidelines have been proposed for return to activities; however, these fail to address the needs of younger children and those participating in more casual activities. Guidance is needed for primary care providers to facilitate safe return to everyday activity and sports and to help direct appropriate laboratory, electrocardiographic, and anatomical assessment.

Inhibitory Molecules PD-1, CD73 and CD39 Are Expressed by CD8 T Cells in a Tissue-Dependent Manner and Can Inhibit T Cell Responses to Stimulation.

The salivary gland is an important tissue for persistence and transmission of multiple viruses. Previous work showed that salivary gland tissue-resident CD8 T cells elicited by viruses were poorly functional . Using a model of persistent murine cytomegalovirus (MCMV) infection, we now show that CD8 T cells in the salivary gland and other non-lymphoid tissues of mice express multiple molecules associated with T cell exhaustion including PD-1, CD73 and CD39.

Simplifying Survivorship Care Planning: A Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing 3 Care Plan Delivery Approaches.

Background: Survivorship care plans seek to improve the transition to survivorship, but the required resources present implementation barriers. This randomized controlled trial aimed to identify the simplest, most effective approach for survivorship care planning.

Methods: Stage 1-3 breast, colorectal, and prostate cancer patients aged 21 years or older completing treatment were recruited from an urban-academic and rural-community cancer center.

Implementing survivorship care planning in two contrasting health systems: lessons learned from a randomized controlled trial.

Objective: Survivorship care plans (SCPs) are recommended to promote appropriate follow-up care, but implementation has been limited. We conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing three SCP delivery models in two health systems. We utilize mixed methods to compare the feasibility and participants' perceived value of the three models.

Thermographic imaging in a dog with macroglossia from an encircling, strangulating lingual linear foreign body.

A dog presented 16 hours after an acute onset of severe generalized lingual swelling from an unknown cause. The dog had recently chewed a deer carcass. Initial physical examination and diagnostic testing did not reveal an underlying cause, and supportive care was provided.

Mechanisms of Antiviral Cytotoxic CD4 T Cell Differentiation.

Cytotoxic CD4 T lymphocytes (CD4-CTL) are important in antiviral immunity. For example, we have previously shown that in mice, CD4-CTL are important to control ectromelia virus (ECTV) infection. How viral infections induce CD4-CTL responses remains incompletely understood.

Measurement of the Wγ Production Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and Constraints on Effective Field Theory Coefficients.

A fiducial cross section for Wγ production in proton-proton collisions is measured at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 137  fb^{-1} of data collected using the CMS detector at the LHC. The W→eν and μν decay modes are used in a maximum-likelihood fit to the lepton-photon invariant mass distribution to extract the combined cross section. The measured cross section is compared with theoretical expectations at next-to-leading order in quantum chromodynamics.

Observation of a New Excited Beauty Strange Baryon Decaying to Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-}.

The Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass spectrum is investigated with an event sample of proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016-2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb^{-1}. The ground state Ξ_{b}^{-} is reconstructed via its decays to J/ψΞ^{-} and J/ψΛK^{-}. A narrow resonance, labeled Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-}, is observed at a Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass of 6100.

The International Classification of Disease Critical Care Severity Score demonstrates that pediatric burden of injury is similar to that of adults: Validation using the National Trauma Databank.

Background/purpose: Resource-based severity of injury (SOI) measures, such as the International Classification of Disease (ICD) Critical Care Severity Score (ICASS), may characterize traumatic burden better than standard mortality-based measures. The purpose of this study was to validate the ICASS in a representative national-level trauma cohort and compare SOI measures between children and adults.

Methods: The National Trauma Databank was used to derive (2008-12) and validate (2013-15) ICASS and ICD Injury Severity Scores (ICISS, standard mortality-based SOI measure).

Sudden Death in the Young: Information for the Primary Care Provider.

There are multiple conditions that can make children prone to having a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) or sudden cardiac death (SCD). Efforts have been made by multiple organizations to screen children for cardiac conditions, but the emphasis has been on screening before athletic competition. This article is an update of the previous American Academy of Pediatrics policy statement of 2012 that addresses prevention of SCA and SCD.
