Many youths and young adults have variable environmental health knowledge, limited understanding of their local environment's impact on their health, and poor environmentally friendly behaviors. We sought to develop and test a tool to reliably capture data, increase environmental health knowledge, and engage youths as citizen scientists to examine and take action on their community's challenges. The Eyewitness Community Survey (ECS) was developed through several iterations of co-design.

Periodontitis is a dysbiotic disease caused by the interplay between the microbial ecosystem present in the disease with the dysregulated host immune response. The disease-associated microbial community is formed by the presence of established oral pathogens like as well as by newly dominant species like . These two oral pathogens prevail and grow within the periodontal pocket which highlights their ability to evade the host immune response.

The interaction between insulin resistance and inflammation plays a central role in the development of chronic diseases, although the mechanism is not fully understood. We previously demonstrated that regulator of G-protein signaling-10 (RGS10) protein is a negative modulator of the inflammatory response in macrophages and microglia. Because inflammation is a critical component in the development of high fat diet-induced insulin resistance, in this study we investigated whether RGS10 is involved in the diet-dependent regulation of glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity.

Sixteen years ago, the 105th Congress, responding to the needs of 10 million children in the United States who lacked health insurance, created the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) as part of the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. Enacted as Title XXI of the Social Security Act, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP; or SCHIP as it has been known at some points) provided states with federal assistance to create programs specifically designed for children from families with incomes that exceeded Medicaid thresholds but that were insufficient to enable them to afford private health insurance. Congress provided $40 billion in block grants over 10 years for states to expand their existing Medicaid programs to cover the intended populations, to erect new stand-alone SCHIP programs for these children, or to effect some combination of both options.

This investigation examined the metabolic and performance effects of ingesting solid compared to slurried carbohydrate food (bananas) between two prolonged exhaustive exercise bouts. Eight highly trained male triathletes performed four exhaustive endurance tests (ET), each separated by at least 2 weeks. Each ET consisted of a 90-min run followed by 90 min of cycling, both at 70% VO2max.

The purpose of this research was to measure changes in selected plasma amino acids (AA) during two successive exercise trials to exhaustion. Eleven trained male athletes completed these trials at weeks 4, 6, 8 and 12. Blood samples for each test were collected after a 12-hour fast at times (in minutes) 0 (Resting), 45, 90, 135, 180, at exhaustion (EI), after a 20-minute recovery period, and at the second exhaustion (EII).

This study examined the effects of the Coenzyme Athletic Performance System (CAPS) on endurance performance to exhaustion. CAPS contains 100 mg coenzyme Q10, 500 mg cytochrome C, 100 mg inosine, and 200 IU vitamin E. Eleven highly trained male triathletes were given three daily doses of either CAPS or placebo (dicalcium phosphate) for two 4-week periods using a double-blind crossover design.
