Visual functions in albinism were examined by psychophysiological and electrophysiological methods. Impaired functioning of light, brightness, and contrast channels of the visual system was revealed, as well as specific electrophysiological parameters typical of this condition: increased wave a and shortened latent periods of waves a and b on the total ERG, reduced amplitude and a shorter latent period of P-100 peak of visual evoked potential, prolonged latent periods of waves a and b of local ERG, and increased amplitude of waves a and b of L-ERG.

Spectral filters were used for additional correction of vision in 67 patients: in 15 adults with initial cataracts (intensive yellow filter), 26 children with albinism (yellow-brown filter), 14 children with macular hypoplasia (orange filter), and 12 children with aphakia after removal of congenital cataracts (yellow filter). Selection of the filter density is carried out using a special method including visocontrastometry, examination of sensitivity to lateral light, and study of color perception thresholds. Use of filters resulted in improvement of the vision acuity by 43.

The accommodation potential of the eye is markedly reduced in patients with optic nystagmus. Trans-scleral exposure of the ciliary body to infrared low-energy laser at wavelength 1.3 microns may be used to repair the accommodation potential of the eyes and improve the visual function in nystagmus.

The results of a clinical study of 42 cases of synchronous endometrial and ovarian tumors are discussed. Clinical manifestations of synchronous cancer were found to be similar to those of endometrial carcinoma. Postmenopausal patients showed a favorable course of tumor process, thus suggesting its primary multiple origin, slightly more frequently than reproductive or climacteric females.
