Spatial transcriptomic profiling enables precise quantification of gene expression with simultaneous localization of expression profiles onto tissue structures. This new technology promises to improve our understanding of the disease mechanisms. Therefore, there is intense interest in applying these methods in clinical trials or as laboratory developed tests to aid in diagnosis of disease.

Does receipt of social housing impact mental health? Results of a quasi-experimental study in the Greater Toronto Area.

Affordable housing is commonly described as an important determinant of health, but there are relatively few intervention studies of the effects of housing on health. In this paper, we describe the results of a quasi-experimental, longitudinal study investigating the impacts of receiving social housing among a cohort of 502 people on waitlists for social housing in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. Specifically, we sought to determine if adults who received housing were more likely than a control group to show improvements in depression, psychological distress, and self-rated mental health 6, 12 and 18 months after moving to housing.

Regulation of R-Loops in DNA Tumor Viruses.

R-loops are triple-stranded nucleic acid structures that occur when newly synthesized single-stranded RNA anneals to duplex DNA upon the collision of replication forks with transcription complexes. These RNA-DNA hybrids facilitate several transcriptional processes in the cell and have been described extensively in the literature. Recently, evidence has emerged that R-loops are key regulators of DNA tumor virus transcription and the replication of their lifecycle.

Data on percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease in patients of diverse race/ethnicity are scant. This study aimed to assess the impact of race/ethnicity on clinical outcomes at 12-month follow-up of patients with LMCA disease who underwent PCI with drug-eluting stent implantation. All patients who underwent PCI for LMCA disease between 2010 and 2019 at a tertiary care center were prospectively enrolled.

Extraction of uranium from water is an essential step in leach (ISL) mining and environmental decontamination. This is often done by precipitating uranium in solution as the uranyl peroxide studtite, [(UO)(O)(HO)](HO), by adding hydrogen peroxide, which is energy-intensive to produce and hazardous to transport. Here, we present a method for synthesizing studtite, by generating reactive oxygen species in solution using a nonthermal plasma.

Young people coming of age amidst widespread socioeconomic uncertainty have a unique vantage from which to interpret how social, economic and environmental factors might influence health and the generation of health inequalities. Despite this, only a small number of existing studies of 'lay' understandings of health inequalities have focused on young people. This arts-based qualitative study builds on that body of research, in the context of the UK, to explore how young people make sense of health inequalities.

An investigation on main effects and interactions of relative age effects and playing position in female elite football in Germany.

Athlete age-grouping and age-banding has been shown to impact sport participation and athlete development. The current study examined the impact of within-year (WYEs) and between-year effects (BYEs), and their interactions with playing position, on female participation in elite German football. The sample of 1,378 German first-league players revealed expected participation inequities within-year with relatively older players being over-represented and younger players being under-represented.

During 2022-2023, the School Lunch Project (SLP) provided free nutritious cooked lunches 1-4 days per week to Kinder to Grade 10 students attending 30 schools in areas of high disadvantage in Tasmania, Australia. Cattle and other domestic ruminants are the primary reservoirs of O157 and non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing (STEC). Living in areas with high ruminant density has been associated with excess risk of infection, which could be due to both direct ruminant contact and residual environmental risk, but the role of each is unclear. We investigated whether there is any meaningful risk to individuals living in ruminant-dense areas if they do not have direct contact with ruminants.
