Selective area epitaxy (SAE) is widely used in photonic integrated circuits, but there is little information on the use of this technique for the growth of heterostructures in ultra-wide windows. Samples of heterostructures with InGaAs quantum wells (QWs) on GaAs (100) substrates with a pattern of alternating stripes (100-μm-wide SiO mask/100-μm-wide window) were grown using metalorganic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD). It was found that due to a local change in the growth rate of InGaAs QW in the window, the photoluminescence (PL) spectra measured from the edge to the center of the window exhibited maximum blueshifts of 14 and 19 meV at temperatures of 80 K and 300 K, respectively.

The primary electron donor of the photosystem I (I) is a heterodimer consisting of two chlorophyll molecules. A series of electron-transfer events immediately following the initial light excitation leads to a stabilization of the positive charge by its cation radical form, . The electronic structure of and, in particular, its asymmetry with respect to the two chlorophyll monomers is of fundamental interest and is not fully understood up to this date.

Monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance (MGRS) is a new nosology in modern nephrology and oncohematology. MGRS is defined as kidney injury due to nephrotoxic monoclonal immunoglobulin produced by the B-cell line clone which does not reach the hematological criteria for specific treatment initiation. Monoclonal proteins pathological effects on kidney parenchyma result in irreversible decline of kidney function till the end stage renal disease that in line with the position of International Consensus of hematologists and nephrologists determinates critical necessity for clone specific treatment in patients with MGRS despite the absence of hematological indications for treatment initiation.

Amoebae of the order Vannellida (Amoebozoa, Discosea) have a fairly recognizable spatulate, fan-shaped or semi-circular outlines and a wide area of frontal hyaloplasm. They can be easily distinguished from the other groups of lobose amoebae even by light microscopy. The dorsal side of these amoebae is usually smooth and rarely bears ridges or folds, which are never numerous or regular.

Meteorite magnetizations can provide rare insight into early Solar System evolution. Such data take on new importance with recognition of the isotopic dichotomy between non-carbonaceous and carbonaceous meteorites, representing distinct inner and outer disk reservoirs, and the likelihood that parent body asteroids were once separated by Jupiter and subsequently mixed. The arrival time of these parent bodies into the main asteroid belt, however, has heretofore been unknown.

We engineered a machine learning approach, MSHub, to enable auto-deconvolution of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) data. We then designed workflows to enable the community to store, process, share, annotate, compare and perform molecular networking of GC-MS data within the Global Natural Product Social (GNPS) Molecular Networking analysis platform. MSHub/GNPS performs auto-deconvolution of compound fragmentation patterns via unsupervised non-negative matrix factorization and quantifies the reproducibility of fragmentation patterns across samples.

Core-shell nanorods (NRs) with InGaN/GaN quantum wells (QWs) are promising for monolithic white light-emitting diodes and multi-color displays. Such applications, however, are still a challenge because intensity of the red band is too weak compared with blue and green. To clarify this problem, we measured photoluminescence of different NRs, depending on power and temperature, as well as with time resolution.

In humans and mammals, the homeostasis system is supported by many organs and systems, but hematopoietic remains one of the most important. A negative effect on the hematopoietic system is rejected by many factors, but the first place remains for drugs, which one in three are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The most popular among them remains the active substance "Diclofenac Sodium", which is part of many drugs.

We report the inhibitory effect of peptide extracts obtained from seven medicinal plants against a causative agent of late blight disease We find that all the extracts possess inhibitory activity toward the zoospores output, zoosporangium germination, and the development of on potato disc tubers at different quantitative levels. Based on the biological effects detected, an extract of common horsetail () biomass is recognized as the most effective and is selected for further structural analysis. We perform a combination of amino acid analysis and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, which reveal the presence of Asn/Asp- and Gln/Glu-rich short peptides with molecular masses in the range of 500-900 Da and not exceeding 1500 Da as the maximum.

Mild stress exposure contributes to the development of cognitive and emotional deficits, is considered as a model of depressive state, and is characterized by enhanced NO production. In albino mature (12-month-old) male rats, the depressive state was simulated by daily 30-min exposure to stressful stimuli (vibration, loud sound, and strobe light) over 7 days in a special chamber. On paraffin frontal sections of the brain stained with antibodies against inducible NO synthase (iNOS), the expression and distribution pattern of immunoreactive material were evaluated in various layers of the dentate gyrus under normal conditions and after depression modeling.

In the design of high-affinity and enzyme isoform-selective inhibitors, we applied an approach of augmenting the substituents attached to the benzenesulfonamide scaffold in three ways, namely, substitutions at the 3,5- or 2,4,6-positions or expansion of the condensed ring system. The increased size of the substituents determined the spatial limitations of the active sites of the 12 catalytically active human carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoforms until no binding was observed because of the inability of the compounds to fit in the active site. This approach led to the discovery of high-affinity and high-selectivity compounds for the anticancer target CA IX and antiobesity target CA VB.
