Can Sphagnum removal reverse the undesired succession of rich fens under different alkalinity and fertility levels?

An undesired succession of rich fens leads to the formation of dense Sphagnum carpets that outcompete brown mosses and some vascular plants, resulting in biodiversity loss in fen habitats of high conservation importance. Small-scale Sphagnum removal is a rarely implemented conservational measure, whose success may depend on soil alkalinity and fertility (i.e.

A complex of studies was used in 4 groups of premature babies to study lung tissue morphological changes in hyaline membrane disease, by applying exogenous surfactants during mechanical ventilation. Background diseases, pre- and intranatal risk factors, the babies' longevity, and the specific features of lung tissue and forming hyaline membranes were ascertained. Exogenous surfactants were found to have a blocking effect on the formation of hyaline membranes under mechanical ventilation.

[Perinatal pathology in HIV-infection].

The analysis of the literature and that of own authors' data (structural changes in placenta, fetuses and deceased children) is given. Most typical changes associated with HIV infection (peculiar enlargement of the cells and changes in the size of the nuclei in the cells of different histogenesis) are described. The ways of perinatal infection, pathogenesis of intrauterine infection are discussed.
