This comment engages with Henley's (2020) proposal for a history of psychology that addresses important transformations in mind and behavior across all periods of humanity's deep history. To the extent that the history of psychology pays attention to the human past, Henley observes, that history is dominated by evolutionary perspectives focused on the biological changes that took place in the Pleistocene. Using the recent archaeological site of Göbekli Tepe as a case study, his article draws attention to important psychological changes that have taken place in the more recent past and have unfolded over shorter time scales.

Light is an attractive trigger for release of active molecules from nanocarriers in biological systems. Here, we describe a phenomenon of light-induced release of a fluorescent dye from lipid nano-droplets under visible light conditions. Using auto-emulsification process we prepared nanoemulsion droplets of 32nm size encapsulating the hydrophobic analogue of Nile Red, NR668.

Background: There are increasing concerns about the health and well-being of individuals facing financial troubles. For instance, in the United Kingdom, the relationship between debt and mental health difficulties is becoming more evident due to the economic downturn and welfare reform. Access to debt counseling services is limited and individuals may be reluctant to access services due to stigma.

A neurohistorical approach begins with the principle that the human brain is relatively plastic and therefore continuously open to developmental and cultural influences. This does not mean that we should treat the brain as a blank slate. Instead, such influences, as they interact with given brain/body systems, can generate unpredictable forward-acting effects.

RTG-P1 is a transgenic fish cell line producing luciferase under the control of the IFN-induced Mx rainbow trout gene promoter. This cell line was used to measure viraemia of Salmonid alphavirus (SAV), the cause of Salmon Pancreas Disease (SPD), a serious disease in farmed Atlantic salmon. Two SAV genotype 1 (SAV1) isolates were used in this study, F93-125 (tissue-culture adapted, from Ireland) and 4640 (from a field case in Scotland).

Disposal of fish by-products in the European Community must comply with Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009 which categorizes animal by-products according to risk, and specifies methods of disposal of by-products according to that risk. There is provision under the regulation for composting or ensiling to be used for by-products from aquatic animals. Biosecurity considerations require knowledge of the parameters of time and temperature, or time and pH, required to inactivate any fish pathogens that may be present.

Vitellogenin is a phosphoglycoprotein which represents the main precursor of the egg yolk in teleost fish. This reproductive protein was also demonstrated to play an important role in innate immunity by acting as a pattern recognition molecule capable of binding to bacteria, fungi and enhancing macrophage phagocytosis. The presented results demonstrate that, egg homogenate, ovarian fluid and serum of mature female Atlantic salmon have high neutralising ability for infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV).

Infectious dose and shedding rates are important parameters to estimate in order to understand the transmission of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV). Bath challenge of Atlantic salmon post-smolts was selected as the route of experimental infection as this mimics a major natural route of exposure to IPNV infection. Doses ranging from 10(2) to 10(-4) 50% end-point tissue culture infectious dose (TCID(50)) mL(-1) sea water were used to estimate the minimum infectious dose for a Scottish isolate of IPNV.

Methods for the isolation and quantification of infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) from ovarian and seminal fluids of Atlantic salmon are described. Both have utility for the non-lethal detection of IPNV in mature broodstock and for research into vertical transmission. Two experiments are described to check the efficiency of an elution method for the removal of IPNV from milt.

Intrathecal clonidine has been tested in spinal cord injury patients not supporting or resistant to anticholinergic drugs. Although the acute effect of clonidine on urodynamic parameters was satisfactory, cardiovascular adverse effects limited the long-term efficacy of this treatment. Intrathecal baclofen has a limited effect on overactive bladder in patients with spinal spasticity, but can modify the quality of erections and induce an incapacity to trigger ejaculation by vibratory penile stimulation.

We have developed a real-time nucleic acid sequence based amplification (NASBA) procedure for detection of infectious salmon anaemia virus (ISAV). Primers were designed to target a 124 nucleotide region of ISAV genome segment 8. Amplification products were detected in real-time with a molecular beacon (carboxyfluorescin [FAM]-labelled and methyl-red quenched) that recognised an internal region of the target amplicon.

Background: The aim of the study was to assess the attentional requirements of steady state treadmill walking in human subjects using a dual task paradigm. The extent of decrement of a secondary (cognitive) RT task provides a measure of the attentional resources required to maintain performance of the primary (locomotor) task. Varying the level of difficulty of the reaction time (RT) task is used to verify the priority of allocation of attentional resources.

We conducted a retrospective study of the case files of 64 multiple sclerosis (MS) patients presenting severe spasticity, who had received intrathecal (IT) baclofen test injections between 1992 and 2004 in a rehabilitation unit. In almost all cases of our series, IT baclofen was proposed to patients who were no longer able to walk. IT baclofen is a safe and effective treatment to reduce spasticity in MS patients.

The authors report the case of a 63-year-old patient with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) associated with Parkinson's syndrome, whose performances were dramatically improved by bromocriptine therapy, with an improvement of the scores, not only on tests evaluating motor functions but also on tests evaluating the patient's cognitive functions. However, no improvement was observed with levodopa.

During mid-June 1999 peak mortalities of 11% of the total stock per week were seen at a sea cage site of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., post-smolts in the Shetland Isles, Scotland. Virus was isolated on chinook salmon embryo (CHSE) cells in a standard diagnostic test and infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) identified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

This investigation was designed to study the effects of post-activation depression in different spinal pathways fed by group I afferents available to investigation in human subjects. It was precipitated by a recent investigation in the cat showing that-contrary to the general assumption-post-activation depression is not a widespread phenomenon in the spinal cord. In 24 healthy subjects comparison was made between the effects of low and high-test stimulus rates on the monosynaptic Ia excitation, known to be subject to post-activation depression, and on oligosynaptic pathways fed by group I afferents.

Objective: The involvement of cognitive processes in the control of walking at steady state was studied in 10 healthy subjects and 18 subjects after unilateral vascular brain damage. A dual task paradigm was used to compare the performance level of a probe reaction time (RT) in sitting (simple task) and during standing or walking on a treadmill (dual task conditions). In this latter condition, RTs were classified and analyzed in relation to the different phases of the gait cycle.

Multiple dramatic consequences follow medullary lesions. Not only are voluntary motor control and sensitivity of the body segment below the lesion lost, but it also becomes impossible to control erection and ejaculation as well as urinary and faecal continency. The first investigations into genito-sexual function in paraplegics have brought about the idea, commonly admitted in the medical world, that this kind of patient is impotent and sterile.

Unlabelled: Reconstruction of the renal artery with both saphenous vein and prosthetic material as bypass graft is durable in atherosclerotic disease. Extensive experience with saphenous vein grafts in pediatric patients and patients without atherosclerosis reveals a disturbing incidence of vein graft aneurysm degeneration. Distal renal artery reconstruction involving small branch vessels is generally not amenable to prosthetic reconstruction.
