Melanoma of the sinonasal mucosa: A report on the two cases and a review of the literature.

Introduction: Primary mucosal melanoma of the sinonasal tract is a rare neoplasm, accounting for less than 1% of all melanomas. It has an aggressive and unpredictable biologic behavior characterized by frequent incidence of local recurrence, local and distant metastasis of the disease.

Case Report: This report summarizes the results of the previous research concerning sinonasal mucosal melanoma, and by the example of the two patients suffering from mucosal melanoma, we described clinical and histopathological features of this rare neoplasm and our experience in its diagnosis and treatment.

[Characteristics of sensorineural hearing loss secondary to inner ear acoustic trauma].

Introduction: Cochlear damage secondary to exposure to acoustic trauma is the consequence of the acoustic energy effects on the hearing cells in Korti's organ.

Objective: The objective was to assess the correlation between the degree of sensorineural hearing loss and the type of audiogram registered in acoustic trauma exposed patients.

Method: We analysed 262 audiograms of patients exposed to acoustic trauma in correlation to 146 audiograms of patients with cochlear damage and hearing loss not related to acoustic trauma.

Acute mastoiditis in children: susceptibility factors and management.

The objective was to review our experience with clinical course, diagnostic and therapeutic profile of children treated for acute mastoiditis, and to investigate for possible susceptibility factors. Study was designed as retrospective review of pediatric patients presenting with acute mastoiditis secondary to acute otitis media over the last 6 years, from 2000 to 2006. The study involved children aged from 1 to 16 years treated for acute mastoiditis and subsequent intratemporal and intracranial complications in Clinic for otorhinolaryngology, Clinic Center Banja Luka.
