[Relationship between science, politics, religion and daily life].

The relationship between science, politics and religion is discussed, with special reference to the effect of scientific discoveries on the improvement of the quality of everyday life. It is concluded that the results of scientific research lead to prosperity of man and nations. However, the society appears to insufficiently use these advantages which can be partly the result of failing to recognize the connection between basic science and products that re-define everyday life.

Political significance of knowledge in Southeast Europe.

The processes of globalization and transition are inevitable, full of dangers and threats, but offer enormous opportunities. Surveys of public opinion show that citizens are not aware of the fact that their countries are governed by the will of the people and a large majority considers that their country and the world are not going in the right direction. Presently, knowledge is becoming a dominant political power.

Measurement of pi(0)pi(0) production in the nuclear medium by pi(-) interactions at 0.408 GeV/c.

We report on an investigation of the (pi(-),pi(0)pi(0)) reaction by means of measurements of the pi(0)pi(0) invariant mass distributions from pi(-) interactions on H, D, C, Al, and Cu targets at p(pi(-)) = 0.408 GeV/c. The sharp, strong peak in the pi(+)pi(-) invariant mass near 2m(pi) reported by the CHAOS Collaboration is not seen in our pi(0)pi(0) data.

Dependence of the nucleoside effect on linear energy transfer.

L929 cells were irradiated by cyclotron-produced neutrons and by 14.8 MeV monoenergetic neutrons. For comparison cells were also irradiated by 60Co gamma rays.

The energy response of LiF, film and a chemical dosemeter to high energy photons and electrons.

The physical responses of LiF, film and a chemical dosemeter in high energy photon and electron beams has been studied. It is shown that the response for film and the chemical dosemeter does not change significantly up to 42 MeV, while for LiF it decreases by about 10%. Analysis of calculations and measurements showed that this decrease could not be explained by existing theories.
