Data measurement, instrument selection, and sampling are fundamental elements in quantitative research and data collection. Data measurement is the systematic assignment of numeric values or categories to variables to permit measurement with precision and accuracy. Instrument selection involves selecting the right tool or method to collect data effectively and accurately and ensure the reliability and validity of the data.

Quantitative Research Designs, Hierarchy of Evidence and Validity.

This paper provides a summary of the main quantitative research designs. Quantitative research designs occur in a hierarchy of evidence, ranging from descriptive research designs such as cross-sectional studies, and cohort designs, to more carefully constructed experimental designs like randomised control trials (RCT's). The quality of a study's findings is determined by factors affecting its internal validity and its application to other settings is gauged by its external validity.

Touching Technology-Parents' Experiences of Remote Consultations for Children With Severe Congenital Cardiac Conditions: Quasi-Experimental Cohort Study.

Background: Remote consultations (RCs) using videoconferencing was recommended by the General Medical Council as the method for clinicians to provide patient consultations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Facilitating this while providing high-quality care depends on the usability and acceptability of the technology.

Objective: This project aimed to investigate parents' experiences of using videoconferencing technology for real-time RCs with children who had congenital heart defects during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

A high-power 4 × 4: crystallographic and electrochemical insights into a novel Wadsley-Roth anode NbTiWO.

A novel 4 × 4 Wadsley-Roth block phase, NbTiWO, has been prepared and its structure determined through Neutron and X-ray diffraction studies. Electrochemical testing indicated excellent high rate performance, with a returned delithiation capacity of 184 (4) mA h g at a current of 2 A g.

Descriptive epidemiology study of hand injuries sustained in Gaelic football referred to a hand therapy service over 1 year.

Objectives: Gaelic football requires ball handling, such as bouncing, fist passing and catching. To date, no research has examined the types of injuries sustained to the hand in this sport. This study aims to establish the types of orthopaedic hand injuries sustained in Gaelic football.

'Walk Buds': A walking intervention to increase physical activity, physical fitness, and emotional wellbeing, in 9-13 year old children with intellectual disabilities. Results of a clustered randomised feasibility trial.

Background: Children with intellectual disability are less physically active and more sedentary than typically developing peers. To date no studies have tested the feasibility of a school-based walking intervention for children with Intellectual Disability.

Method: A clustered randomised controlled trial (cRCT), with an embedded process evaluation, was used to test the feasibility of a school-based walking intervention.

The development and structural validity testing of the Person-centred Practice Inventory-Care (PCPI-C).

Background: Person-centred healthcare focuses on placing the beliefs and values of service users at the centre of decision-making and creating the context for practitioners to do this effectively. Measuring the outcomes arising from person-centred practices is complex and challenging and often adopts multiple perspectives and approaches. Few measurement frameworks are grounded in an explicit person-centred theoretical framework.

Building public engagement and access to palliative care and advance care planning: a qualitative study.

Background: Research evidence suggests that a lack of engagement with palliative care and advance care planning could be attributed to a lack of knowledge, presence of misconceptions and stigma within the general public. However, the importance of how death, dying and bereavement are viewed and experienced has been highlighted as an important aspect in enabling public health approaches to palliative care. Therefore, research which explores the public views on strategies to facilitate engagement with palliative care and advance care planning is required.

Consensus on the definition and attributes of person-centered teamwork: An e-Delphi study.

Background: Effective health care relies on person-centeredness and teamwork, which are known to improve outcomes. These two concepts have been defined individually, but we could not find a definition of the combined concept. A preliminary definition was developed through a concept analysis; however, consensus on the concept has not been reached.

CKAP5 enables formation of persistent actin bundles templated by dynamically instable microtubules.

Cytoskeletal rearrangements and crosstalk between microtubules and actin filaments are vital for living organisms. Recently, an abundantly present microtubule polymerase, CKAP5 (XMAP215 homolog), has been reported to play a role in mediating crosstalk between microtubules and actin filaments in the neuronal growth cones. However, the molecular mechanism of this process is unknown.

Structural and electrochemical insights into novel Wadsley Roth NbTiMoO and TaTiMoO anodes for Li-ion battery application.

Niobium based anodes are gaining increasing popularity for application in high-power lithium-ion batteries, due to their high theoretical capacities, inherent safety at high current densities, and long-term stability. Here, we report the discovery and characterisation of a new Wadsley Roth niobate system, NbTiMoO, showing that it is isostructural with known systems: NbPO and NbVO. To evaluate the material's electrochemical performance, including performance at high current densities (for potential high power applications), and long-term stability, Li half-coin cells were prepared.

One Hundred Times Better, at Home in Our Own Beds: Implementation of Home Intravenous Hydration After Chemotherapy in Children With Cancer.

Home-based cancer care offers new ways of delivering supportive therapies, including post-chemotherapy hydration, traditionally delivered in hospital settings. Understanding how programs are developed and how parents perceive managing care at home offers opportunities to improve services and experiences. To describe the implementation process and evaluation of a home intravenous hydration program for children with cancer and thus to provide practical information for future initiatives.

Out-of-hours community palliative care: a national survey of hospice providers.

Background: Community-based palliative out-of-hours services operate outside normal working hours. However, little is known about the provision and delivery of such care.

Aim: The aim of this study was to describe types of provision and delivery of out-of-hours palliative care services provided by UK hospices.

Mentoring the Wellbeing of Specialist Pediatric Palliative Care Medical and Nursing Trainees: The Quality of Care Collaborative Australia.

Background: The Quality of Care Collaborative Australia (QuoCCA), working across 6 tertiary centers throughout Australia, builds capability in the generalist and specialist pediatric palliative care (PPC) workforce, by providing education in metropolitan and regional areas. As part of the education and mentoring framework, Medical Fellows and Nurse Practitioner Candidates (trainees) were funded by QuoCCA at four tertiary hospitals throughout Australia.

Objective: This study explores the perspectives and experiences of clinicians who had occupied the QuoCCA Medical Fellow and Nurse Practitioner trainee positions in the specialised area of PPC at Queensland Children's Hospital, Brisbane, to identify the ways in which they were supported and mentored to maintain their wellbeing and facilitate sustainable practice.

It supports regional and community services to provide care close to families' homes, as well as building expertise in tertiary centers.

Objective: Medical Fellows and Nurse Practitioner candidates (specialist trainees) were funded by QuoCCA at four tertiary hospitals throughout Australia supported by an education and mentoring framework.

Care at Your Fingertips: Codesign, Development, and Evaluation of the Oncology Hub App for Remote Symptom Management in Pediatric Oncology.

Purpose: To codesign, develop, and evaluate a smartphone app that includes patient-reported measures of symptoms and real-time advice in children's cancer.

Methods: The Oncology Hub is a comprehensive approach to symptom management that includes a suite of codesigned tools and resources including clinical algorithms to determine the level of concern, symptom management advice, and resources for families of children with cancer. The evaluation involved Think Aloud interviews with parent and adolescent patients to complete tasks in the app as well as a User Experience questionnaire (score range, 0-120) and qualitative feedback.

Fifteen years of shared care for paediatric oncology, haematology and palliative patients across Queensland: The role of Regional Case Managers.

Objective: A shared care model was implemented in 2006 in Queensland to facilitate paediatric oncology, haematology and palliative care patients receiving care as close to home as possible. Following initial diagnosis, care planning and treatment at the tertiary children's hospital, appropriate local care was coordinated by Regional Case Managers (RCMs) established at each of 10 Shared Care Units (SCUs). This enabled safe and quality regional care supported by a statewide network providing clinical governance and education.

High levels of risk factors and poor secondary prevention for coronary heart disease patients in public hospitals: A descriptive repeated measures study.

Background: Secondary prevention is a priority after coronary revascularization for effective long-term cardiovascular care. Coronary Heart Disease is a major health problem in Jordan, but little is known about the current provision of secondary prevention.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate risk factors and explore the current provision of secondary Coronary Heart Disease prevention among patients presenting with first-time Coronary Heart Disease at two time points: during hospitalization (Time 1) and 6 months later (Time 2), in multicentre settings in Jordan.

Building capability in paediatric palliative care and enhancing education through the voice of parents: the Quality of Care Collaborative Australia.

Background: The greater proportion of children with a life-limiting condition (LLC) and their families want to remain at home as much as possible. Building capability in paediatric palliative care (PPC) for generalist health and social care professionals in nonmetropolitan regions through the Quality of Care Collaborative Australia (QuoCCA) has improved access to palliative care for families, regardless of where they live.

Aim: To understand the experience of families whose child has received specialist PPC, to ensure future service capability development is informed by lived experience.

Optimization of Electrode and Cell Design for Ultrafast-Charging Lithium-Ion Batteries Based on Molybdenum Niobium Oxide Anodes.

Niobium oxides are an emerging class of anode materials for use in high-power lithium-ion batteries. Galvanostatic cycling and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used in this study to investigate the influence of electrode porosity, electrode mass ratio, and cycling rate on the capacity, cycle life, and ionic conductivity of Li-ion battery cells based on a modified micron-sized MoNbO (MNO) anode powder. Both electrode and cell designs were found to have a significant impact on the rate performance and cycle life of Li-ion half- and full cells.

Care experiences of older people with mental health needs and their families in emergency medical services settings.

Background: There are challenges to person-centred care provision in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) settings. The environment is often busy and noisy which can influence the experience of older people and their carer/partners when they attend emergency departments. Older people with mental health needs are a vulnerable group of people who are at risk of not having their needs met in acute care settings.
