Interprofessional co-treatment occurs when practitioners from different professions engage in collaborative practice during the same session with the same patient or client. While interprofessional co-treatment is common practice in many settings, there are no known studies that have synthesized the available literature across professions on this interprofessional intervention. Background: There is extensive evidence that rapid infant weight gain increases the risk of childhood obesity, but this is normally based on childhood body mass index (BMI) only and whether or not this is because infants with rapid weight gain accrue greater fat mass is unknown.

Objective: The primary objective of our study was to test whether the proportion of infant weight gain due to concurrent increases in fat mass is greater in infants with rapid weight gain as compared to those with normal growth.

Methods: Body composition was assessed by (1) air-displacement plethysmography (ADP) at 0 and 6 months in 342 infants from Australia, India, and South Africa and (2) deuterium dilution (DD) at 3 and 24 months in 555 infants from Brazil, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Lower limb prosthesis users are at an increased risk of developing osteoarthritis in their intact knee. There is a scarcity of literature examining how the stiffness properties of commercially available prosthetic feet impact gait mechanics, including knee loading biomechanical variables that have been associated with the development of osteoarthritis. Although much information can be gained about thermally induced microstructural changes in metals through the measurement of their thermophysical properties using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), due to competing influences on the signal, not all microstructural changes can be fully characterised this way. For example, accurate characterisation of recrystallisation, tempering, and changes in retained delta ferrite in alloyed steels becomes complex due to additional signal changes due to the Curie point, oxidation, and the rate (and therefore the magnitude) of transformation. However, these types of microstructural changes have been shown to invoke strong magnetic and electromagnetic (EM) responses; therefore, simultaneous EM measurements can provide additional complementary data which can help to emphasise or deconvolute these complex signals and develop a more complete understanding of certain metallurgical phenomena.

A 7-session narrative medicine (NM) curriculum was designed and facilitated by pediatrics residents for pediatrics residents in order to unpack challenging experiences during clinical training and strengthen relationships with colleagues and patients. The primary facilitator, a resident with a master's degree in NM, provided facilitator training to her co-residents with whom she co-led the workshops in the curriculum. We conducted, transcribed, and analyzed individual interviews of 15 residents, with three resultant themes: reflection on personal and professional identity; connection to others and community building; and reconceptualization of medical practice.

Manufacturing of recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors produces three types of capsids: full, intermediate, and empty. While there are different opinions about the impact of intermediate and empty capsids on safety and efficacy of AAV products, they are generally considered impurities because they are not the intended fully intact vector product. The presence of these impurities could impact product efficacy due to potential competition with fully packaged AAVs for cellular transduction, as well as have potential implications to patient safety due to increased capsid load during dosing.

Late preterm infants have lower breastfeeding rates than term infants, yet few published interventions or guidelines exist to guide hospitals in managing them in the non-intensive nursery setting. Here we describe the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary, hospital-based, breastfeeding support program among late preterm infants not requiring intensive care. The Early Bloomer Program includes an order set applied at birth, immediate lactation consultation, availability of donor milk, parent education on late preterm infants, hand expression teaching and kit including spoon and video link, and daily interdisciplinary team huddles.

While deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flaps are the gold standard, not all patients are ideal candidates for DIEP flaps due to low BMI, body habitus, or previous abdominal surgery. Recently, it was found that paracetamol can extend the therapeutic window of l-DOPA treatment for Parkinson's disease [Golding (2019) BJPharm, 4(2), Article 619]. It has been posited that the effect could be due to paracetamol and its metabolite, NAPQI, inhibiting pain signals in the spinal column. In this work, we examine the possibility that the therapeutic effect of the paracetamol for the Parkinson's disease patient may be due to an inhibition of the enzymes that metabolize dopamine and/or l-DOPA, thus effectively extending the lifetime of the l-DOPA treatment.

Background: The United Kingdom (UK) was one of the first countries to pioneer heart transplantation from donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors. To facilitate equity of access to DCD hearts by all UK heart transplant centers and expand the retrieval zone nationwide, a Joint Innovation Fund (JIF) pilot was provided by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) and NHS England (NHSE).
