Kidney graft directly implanted on endovascular stent in external iliac artery: A preliminary experience.

With an increasingly aging population, both end-stage renal disease and peripheral artery disease become more prevalent. Peripheral artery disease is increasingly treated with endovascular procedures. Endovascular stenting of the external iliac artery is often considered a contraindication for kidney transplantation, as clamping of the artery could result in possible injury to the stent.

The Effect of Recipient Back-Table Duration on Graft Outcome of Deceased Donor Kidneys: A Single-Center Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: Little is known about the influence of the duration of the kidney back-table preparation period and kidney temperature on graft outcomes after transplantation. The aim of this study is to investigate the back-table duration and its relation to graft outcome and the relation between kidney temperature and graft outcome.

Methods: In this prospective cohort study, deceased donor kidney temperature is measured at fixed time points using an infrared thermometer during back-table preparation and transplantation.

Introduction: Ageing of the general population has led to an increase in the use of suboptimal kidneys from expanded criteria donation after brain death (ECD-DBD) and donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors. ALBINO3, an Arabidopsis nuclear gene essential for chloroplast differentiation, encodes a chloroplast protein that shows homology to proteins present in bacterial membranes and yeast mitochondria.

The albino3 (alb3) mutant of Arabidopsis forms white or light yellow cotyledons and leaves and when germinated on soil does not survive beyond the seedling stage. The chloroplasts of the mutant are abnormal, as determined by electron microscopy, and contain reduced levels of chlorophyll. However, the chloroplasts of alb3 mutants are sufficiently differentiated to enable the expression of two nuclear genes whose transcription requires the presence of chloroplasts.

To simulate femoral intramedullary bone stock loss in revision surgery of failed total hip arthroplasties, a method was developed using impacted trabecular bone grafts. In 14 goats a cemented total hip arthroplasty was performed, fixating the stem within a circumferential construction of bone allografts. After 6 or 12 weeks, 4 goats were used for mechanical tests and 3 for histology.
