Background: With increasing adoption of remote clinical trials in digital mental health, identifying cost-effective and time-efficient recruitment methodologies is crucial for the success of such trials. Evidence on whether web-based recruitment methods are more effective than traditional methods such as newspapers, media, or flyers is inconsistent. Here we present insights from our experience recruiting tertiary education students for a digital mental health artificial intelligence-driven adaptive trial-Vibe Up.

Introduction: Tissue morcellation has become increasingly efficient, yet remains a rate limiting step in holmium enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). Limited data exists on how the rate of oscillation by the morcellator blades affects morcellation efficiency (ME).

Intrafractional motion and dosimetric analysis in prostate stereotactic body radiation therapy with auto beam hold technique.

: To summarize our institutional prostate stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) experience using auto beam hold (ABH) technique for intrafractional prostate motion and assess ABH tolerance of 10-millimeter (mm) diameter.: Thirty-two patients (160 fractions) treated using ABH technique between 01/2018 and 03/2021 were analyzed. During treatment, kV images were acquired every 20-degree gantry rotation to visualize 3-4 gold fiducials within prostate to track target motion.

Development of a quality of life measure for left ventricular assist device recipients using a mixed methods approach.

Background: Left ventricular assist device (LVAD) recipients report symptom improvement but find adjusting to life with the LVAD challenging. These challenges are unique, and existing patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) do not reflect their experiences. This study aimed to develop a culturally relevant quality of life PROM for use with LVAD recipients in future research, design evolutions and clinical practice.

Parenting experiences and outcomes among former adolescent mothers: A mixed methods study.

The purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed methods study was to examine parenting outcomes and experiences over time among marginalized adolescent mothers enrolled in randomized clinical trials (RCT) between 2002 and 2016 testing Minding the Baby® (MTB), an early home visiting program. The quantitative phase examined associations between measures of maternal experiences and parenting outcomes from 71 participants 2-8 years since RCT completion. MTB mothers reported less hostile parenting and fewer child behavior problems.

Natural disease course modeling of achondroplasia to evaluate the efficacy of recifercept in the absence of a placebo control arm in phase II study.

While randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded clinical studies are the gold standard for evaluating the efficacy of investigational drugs, the use of placebo in children with achondroplasia should be limited because it provides no clinical benefit while exhausting study participants' treatment window. Recifercept is an investigational drug for treating children with achondroplasia aged 2-10 years. An alternative efficacy evaluation method, instead of a placebo control arm, was employed in the phase II study.

Parental Reflective Functioning on the Parent Development Interview: A narrative review of measurement, association, and future directions.

A caregiver's capacity to mentalize is thought to be one of the most important features of secure parent-child relationships. Parental mentalizing can be measured using the Reflective Functioning (RF) coding system applied to the Parent Development Interview (PDI). In this narrative review, we summarize the research using this measure and synthesize what has been learnt about the predictors, correlates and sequelae of parental RF.

Purpose: Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is a surgical treatment option for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Many men develop retrograde ejaculation postprocedure, but there is conflicting evidence regarding sexual function outcomes post-HoLEP. We sought to examine significant variations in patient-reported erectile and ejaculatory function within 12 months post-HoLEP.

Looking back to light the path forward: Ghosts in the Nursery revisited.

The infant health movement was launched nearly 50 years ago with the publication of the now classic paper, Ghosts in the Nursery: A psychoanalytic approach to the problems of impaired infant-mother relationships, written by Selma Fraiberg, Edna Adelson, and Vivian Shapiro (1975). This paper offers us lessons for infant mental health practice that have been proven true time and again over the last 50 years. These lessons both underscore the factors essential to clinical progress across a range of interventions, and remind us of the significant challenges we face in these times of massive, global trauma and oppression, extreme economic hardship, and systemic racism.

The relationship between palliative radiotherapy and opioid prescribing patterns among patients with metastatic cancer.

Background: While randomized trials have established that palliative radiotherapy, especially to bone, can improve qualitative measures of pain, its quantitative relationship to opioid prescribing patterns has remained underexplored. We aimed to identify the association of palliative radiotherapy on opioid prescriptions received among patients with metastatic cancer.

Methods: The Virginia Commonwealth University Institutional Review Board approved retrospective analysis extracted prescription data from all adult patients with metastatic cancer who underwent outpatient palliative external beam radiation therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System from 2008-2018.

Background: Burn injuries are the fourth most common type of trauma and are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. The impact of burn injury is clinically significant as burn injuries often give rise to exuberant scarring. Hypertrophic scarring (HTS) is a particular concern as up to 70% of burns patients develop HTS.

Identifying patient-valued outcomes for use in early phase trials of ocular surface disease interventions.

Background: Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) can be used to evaluate the impact of dry eye symptoms (DES) on daily life. Early-phase clinical trials provide an opportunity to evaluate PRO strategies. Existing measures identified through systematic review omitted important concepts that mattered to patients.

Evaluation of Renal Function Recovery After Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.

Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) has become a new surgical gold standard treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is known that untreated BPH can lead to bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). A positive correlation exists between BOO and chronic kidney disease (CKD), but stability or recovery of renal function after HoLEP remains unknown.

Objective: Exposure to early childhood adversity is associated with an increased risk for physiological disruption, including increased inflammation. Early interventions that support the mother-child relationship have been shown to potentially buffer negative psychosocial outcomes related to early adversity, but it is unclear whether these interventions have long-term biological effects. We evaluated whether prior participation in Minding the Baby® (MTB), an attachment-based home visiting intervention for young mother-infant dyads living in underserved communities, is associated with lower child salivary inflammatory biomarkers compared with controls at follow-up.

Bringing a mentalizing framework to understanding mothers with addiction: The groundbreaking work of Nancy E. Suchman.

Nancy Suchman is remembered as a pioneer whose mentalization-based intervention-Mothering from the Inside Out (MIO)-transformed the treatment of parents struggling with substance use disorders. Specifically, Suchman's work highlighted the neural mechanisms underlying substance use disorders and identified the promotion of parental mentalizing as a key therapeutic focus in enhancing early parent-child relationships. Her work transformed parenting support models for this population of parents.

Mini-Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy Outcomes in the Obese Population: A Retrospective Review.

Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) has gained popularity over the last decade due to its stone-free rate comparable to traditional PCNL but with decreased risk of complications. While the data on mini-PCNL has been favorable thus far, no study today has evaluated outcomes in obese patients. All patients undergoing mini-PCNL at our institution since we began its use in 2019 were included in this study.

Amending woodchip bioreactors with corncobs reduces nitrogen removal cost.

Woodchip denitrification bioreactors are an effective agricultural practice to reduce nitrogen (N) export from subsurface drainage via the conversion of nitrate (NO) to nitrogen gas (N), but there are challenges associated with limited woodchip supplies and increasing prices. Previous lab studies indicate that corncobs could be a promising woodchip alternative from the perspectives of N removal rate and cost. This field study aimed to provide early performance and cost assessment of denitrification bioreactors with two woodchip-corncob treatments.

Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate in Patients with Pre-Existing Localized Prostate Cancer, Dual Center Study.

Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) has been used as an effective minimally invasive technique for management of enlarged prostates. We aimed to report the role of HoLEP in prostate cancer (PCa) patients either on active surveillance with bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) or for prostate debulking before radiation therapy and the impact on PCa management plans. Prospectively maintained database in two institutions was reviewed for patients with localized PCa managed by HoLEP with at least a follow-up of 1 year.
