Ability of clinical data to predict readmission in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

This study addresses the challenge of predicting readmissions in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) by analyzing the predictability of readmissions over short, medium, and long term periods. Using health records spanning 35 years, which included 22,643 patients and 30,938 episodes of care, we focused on the episode of care as a central unit, defined as a referral-discharge cycle that incorporates assessments and interventions. Data pre-processing involved handling missing values, normalizing, and transforming data, while resolving issues related to overlapping episodes and correcting registration errors where possible.

Loneliness, emotional support and the mental health of young adults and their parents in New York, US during the COVID-19 pandemic: a cohort study.

Background: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic led to social isolation and widespread lockdown, resulting in loneliness and lack of emotional support, which have been associated with adverse mental health outcomes. This study aims to explore the relationship of loneliness and emotional support with depression and substance use among young adults and their parents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: A cohort of 1227 participants was recruited from three ongoing cohort studies in the metropolitan area of New York City, USA.

Stigma About Mental Health in Slovenian First-Year Medical Students.

Objective: Stigma surrounding mental health persists as a significant impediment to adequate support and help-seeking behaviors in Slovenia, despite advancements in psychiatric care and education. This study investigates stigma among first-year medical students at the University of Maribor, Slovenia and how the stigma changes after completing a course in mental health literacy.

Participants: Participants were first-year medical students at the University of Maribor in the academic year 2023/2024.

Online CBT Versus Standard CBT for Pediatric Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), characterized by recurring obsessions and compulsions, affects 1-3% of the childhood population, often leading to severe impairment and reduced quality of life. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is well-documented as first choice treatment for pediatric OCD. Traditionally delivered face-to-face CBT has limitations in terms of accessibility, availability, and quality of delivery.

Methods: We surveyed 1,222 participants from three metropolitan New York City (NYC) based cohorts through telephone interviews conducted from March to September 2020.

Patients and family attitudes about clinical and research sharing of electronic clinical data.

Purpose: To access the attitudes of service users about the sharing of health records for research and to foster collaboration between municipal health services and the specialist health services in Norway.

Mental health conditions are among the highest disease burden on society, affecting approximately 20% of children and adolescents at any point in time, with depression and anxiety being the leading causes of disability globally. To improve treatment outcomes, healthcare organizations turned to clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) that offer patient-specific diagnoses and recommendations. However, the economic impact of CDSS is limited, especially in child and adolescent mental health.

Objective: Clinical data analysis relies on effective methods and appropriate data. Recognizing distinctive clinical services and service functions may lead to improved decision-making. Improving alcohol and substance use screening in school-age children: translation, adaptation and psychometric evaluation of the CRAFFT tool for Lumasaaba, Uganda.

Background: Children at risk of substance use disorders (SUD) should be detected using brief structured tools for early intervention. This study sought to translate and adapt the Car, Relax, Alone, Forget, Family/Friends, Trouble (CRAFFT) tool to determine its diagnostic accuracy, and the optimum cut-point to identify substance use disorders (SUD) risk in Ugandan children aged 6 to 13 years.

Methods: This was a sequential mixed-methods study conducted in two phases.

Scoping Review: Digital Mental Health Interventions for Children and Adolescents Affected by War.

Objective: More than 200 million children and adolescents live in countries affected by violent conflict, are likely to have complex mental health needs, and struggle to access traditional mental health services. Digital mental health interventions have the potential to overcome some of the barriers in accessing mental health support. We performed a scoping review to map existing digital mental health interventions relevant for children and adolescents affected by war, to examine the strength of the evidence base, and to inform the development of future interventions.

The association between intolerance of uncertainty and depressive symptoms during COVID-19 in New York, USA.

Background: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), a highly contagious respiratory illnesses, has globally impacted mental health. This study aims to investigate the association between intolerance of uncertainty and depressive symptoms during the pandemic in New York, USA, considering COVID-19-related worries as modifiers and mediators.

Method: 1227 participants from three ongoing cohort studies, originally centered on trauma-exposed children and adolescents, provided data via questionnaires and telephone interviews across three waves.

Mental Health of Adolescents Exposed to the War in Ukraine.

Importance: With exposure to traumatic events and reduced access to mental health care, adolescents of Ukraine during the Russian invasion since February 2022 are at high risk of psychiatric conditions. However, the actual mental health burden of the war has scarcely been documented.

Objective: To investigate the prevalence of a positive screen for psychiatric conditions among adolescents amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine as well as their associations with war exposure.

Challenges in Interpreting Norwegian Child and Adolescent Mental Health Records.

The Electronic Health Record system BUPdata served Norwegian Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for over 35 years and is still an important source of information for understanding clinical practice. Secondary usage of clinical data enables learning and service quality improvement. We present some insights from explorative data analysis for interpreting the records of patients referred for hyperkinetic disorders.

Secondary outcomes of enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy (eCBT) for children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a debilitating mental health condition usually presenting with a high degree of comorbid symptoms in the majority of cases. Although face-to-face cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is considered the therapeutic golden standard for pediatric OCD, its accessibility, availability, and consistency in delivery are still limited. To address some of these challenges, an enhanced CBT (eCBT) package was created and introduced.

The battle for mental well-being in Ukraine: mental health crisis and economic aspects of mental health services in wartime.

The ongoing war in Ukraine is having profound impacts on both the local and global economy, as well as the infrastructure and overall well-being of the people. The prolonged duration of the conflict, coupled with its many related consequences such as total uncertainty, unfavorable economic conditions, and a distressing media backdrop, have a lasting impact on the mental health of the population. The ongoing war in Ukraine has exposed weaknesses in the national mental health care system and underscored the importance of mental health economics.
