Chronic exposure to arsenic (As), a ubiquitous contaminant, poses deleterious health risks to humans, including cardiovascular disease. Recent studies have implicated ferroptosis, in which the essential micronutrient selenium (Se) plays a crucial role, in several As-induced pathological processes. However, whether Se can counteract As-induced endothelial dysfunction through ferroptosis remains unclear.

: owing to the intricate nature, variability, and persistent oxygen-deficient environment associated with esophageal cancer (EC) tissues, radiotherapy (RT) sometimes doesn't work as well because some cancer cells can resist the radiation to a certain extent. This can lead to the cancer coming back in the same spot or even making the treatment ineffective. The integration of RT with oxygenation strategies is a common approach in cancer treatment.

Growth traits are among the most important economic phenotypes targeted in the genetic improvement of beef cattle. To understand the genetic basis of growth traits in Huaxi cattle, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on body weight, eye muscle area, and back fat thickness across five developmental stages in a population of 202 Huaxi cattle. Additionally, publicly available RNA-seq data from the longissimus dorsi muscle of both young and adult cattle were analyzed to identify key genes and genetic markers associated with growth in Huaxi cattle.

Desertification severely impacts soil environments, necessitating effective control measures to improve sandy soil. On the alpine sandy land of Gonghe Basin, taking bare land containing mobile sand dunes (LD) as a reference, surface soil undergoing four afforestation measures, namely a + (WLYY), + (SLWL), + (SHNT), and (NT80), was studied, with soil physicochemical properties and enzyme activity measured and the bacterial community structure analyzed using Illumina high-throughput sequencing. Compared to LD, all four afforestation measures significantly reduced the sand content, while increasing soil total carbon, total nitrogen, organic matter, alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, and available potassium.

The Cu(II) treatment in water environment by adsorption has become a major strategy for water pollution control and water resource protection. In view of the planar configuration characteristics of Cu(II) complex, the construction and optimization of adsorbent's internal structure to achieve improved adsorption performance is still a problem worth exploring. Herein, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is introduced into graphene oxide/sodium alginate (GO/SA) gel system to obtain PVA/GO/SA gel material, which not only achieves the construction of slit-shaped structure by self-interlayer stacking for GO nanosheets and its cross-linking with SA, but effectively promotes formation of high cross-linking density internal channels by the introduction of PVA, thus achieving the efficacious and selective Cu(II) removal.

In this study, sulfur was introduced into the graphene oxide-based aerogel system based on the theory of bridging effect, and an oxygen-sulfur synergistic system was established to realize the dual-mechanism selective adsorption to low-concentration Cu(II) with slit structure and targeted binding sites. Based on the difference of chemical properties between organic acids and surfactants, the surface of graphene oxide (GO) was functionalized to realize the regulation of the order of its lamellar structure and the construction of carbon defects. On this basis, sulfur source modified GO-based aerogel was created to accomplish selective adsorption to low-concentration Cu(II) by combining the self-accumulation of montmorillonite and GO with the cross-linking mechanism of Ca(II) and sodium alginate.

Numerous investigations focusing on nest site selection among multiple-brooded bird species have revealed a common trend: breeders frequently return to their first nest sites for another brood during the same breeding season. This behavior suggests a strong preference for familiar locations, which may offer advantages such as increased safety, resource availability, and the efficiency of parental care. However, there were also instances where breeders moved to a new nest site.
