A Molecular Features Set (MFS), is a result of a vast diversity of bioinformatics pipelines. The lack of a "gold standard" for most experimental data modalities makes it difficult to provide valid estimation for a particular MFS's quality. Yet, this goal can partially be achieved by analyzing inner-sample Distance Matrices (DM) and their power to distinguish between phenotypes.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in genome regulation. Specifically, many lncRNAs interact with chromatin, recruit epigenetic complexes and in this way affect large-scale gene expression programs. However, the experimental data about lncRNA-chromatin interactions is still limited.

Lophodermium piceae represents the most common Norway spruce needle endophyte. The aim of this study was to find out whether subpopulations of L. piceae in climatically different environments (in which Norway spruce occurs natively) are adapted to local thermal conditions.

Polyelectrolyte complexes of the chitosan-chondroitin sulfate and chitosan-hyaluronate polycation-polyanion pairs were synthesized and characterized as potential dye adsorbents at different pH levels. Equilibrium isotherm analysis was applied to investigate the efficiency and the mechanism of the adsorption of fluorone dyes (fluorescein, eosin Y, erythrosin B) on the synthesized complexes. The inefficiency of the fluorescein adsorption was proved by two different quantitative spectroscopic methods.

The paper reports the experimental results of bioluminescence quenching in the coupled enzyme system NADH:FMN-oxidoreductase-luciferase in the presence of xanthene dyes (fluorescein, eosin Y, erythrosin B) featured by the rate constants of intersystem crossing. From the spectral data and with the help of kinetic model the rate constants of energy transfer from emitter to dye were determined (2.9 x 10(12)-6.

Complex bioluminescence spectra of photoproteins from marine coelenterates - jellyfish Aequorea victoria and hydroid Obelia longissima, and photoluminescence spectra of the bioluminescent reaction products (Ca(2+)-discharged photoproteins) were deconvolved into components. The bioluminescence spectra of aequorin were found to include three, the bioluminescence spectra of obelin - four, and the photoluminescence spectra of the Ca(2+)-discharged photoproteins - only two components. The spectral components were assigned to one unionized and three ionized forms of coelenteramide.

The hypothesis of activity of the upper electron-excited states of the bacterial bioluminescent emitter was verified using dye molecules as foreign energy acceptors. Six compounds were selected having fluorescent state energies ranging from 25,700 to 32,000 cm(-1) (anthracene, pyrene, 1.4-bis(5-phenyloxasol-2-yl)benzene (POPOP), p-bis(o-methylstyryl)benzene (MSB), 2-methoxy-naphtalene, p-terphenyl), exceeding that of the bioluminescent emitter (22,000 cm(-1)).

The involvement of upper electron-excited states in bacterial bioluminescence process was studied with excitation energy-accepting molecules. The fluorescent aromatic compounds, anthracene and 1.4-bis(5-phenyloxazol-2-yl)benzene, were chosen.
