Although the association between high-sugar diets and depression has been verified, few studies have explored the antidepressant mechanisms of apple polyphenol extracts (APE). Therefore, fifty-four C57BL/6 male mice aged 5 weeks were randomly assigned into five groups: the control group with the standard diet (CON), the constant high-sucrose diet group (HSD), the "2 + 5" alternate diet group (A-HSD), and the 500 mg/(kg·bw) APE treatment for the HSD group (APE) and the A-HSD group (A-APE), respectively. The data of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis function and behavioral experiments confirmed the success in the establishment of depression-like mouse models in both HSD and A-HSD groups, which were significantly alleviated after APE treatment.

To explore whether apple polyphenol extract (APE) ameliorates sugary-diet-induced depression-like behaviors, thirty male C57BL/6 mice (3-4 weeks old) were assigned to three groups randomly to receive different treatments for 8 consecutive weeks: (1) control group (CON), (2) S-HSD group (60% high sucrose diet feeding with 0.1 mg mL sucralose solution as drinking water), and (3) S-APE group (S-HSD feeding with 500 mg per (kg bw day) APE solution gavage). The S-HSD group showed significant depression-like behaviors compared with the CON group, which was manifested by an increased number of buried marbles in the marble burying test, prolonged immobility time in both the tail suspension test and forced swimming test, and cognitive impairment based on the Morris water maze test.

The present study examined children's lies to help others obtain benefits (other-benefiting lying) and its relation to theory of mind (ToM) and empathy among 3-5-year-old preschool children. One hundred nine children were recruited from preschools in China. A modified hide-and-seek paradigm was used to measure children's other-benefiting lying behavior, a ToM scale was used to measure children's ToM abilities, and an empathy scale was used to measure children's empathy abilities.

Children's lying is a major concern for parents and teachers alike, not only because lying is an antisocial behavior but also because children's lying correlates with other behavior problems, such as aggression and delinquency. Despite considerable correlational evidence demonstrating the relation between children's lying and behavior problems, experimental evidence is scarce. This study uses a novel task to experimentally examine the relation between lying for personal reward and behavior problem symptoms among 9- to 11-year-old typically developed children ( = 275, 139 boys).

Previous findings on the association between theory of mind (ToM) and aggression in children are mixed. The social skills deficit view regarded ToM as a single-edged sword and proposed that a lack of ToM can lead to aggression, while the double-edged sword view proposed that children with advanced ToM can still show much aggression because children can also leverage ToM to harm others. To resolve the dispute between the two views, we conducted a meta-analysis combining cross-sectional and longitudinal findings from 53 studies including a total of 11,579 children aged between 2 and 15 years.

This study used longitudinal cross-lagged modeling to examine the contribution of theory of mind (ToM), executive function (EF) to children's lying development and of children's lying to ToM and EF development. Ninety-seven Chinese children (initial  = 46 months, 47 boys) were tested three times approximately 4 months apart. Results showed that the diverse desire understanding and knowledge access understanding components of ToM, as well as the inhibitory control component of EF predicted the development of children's lying, while the diverse belief understanding and false belief understanding components of ToM, and the working memory component of EF did not predict development of children's lying.

Objective: To analyze the prevalence characteristics and influence factors of Japanese encephalitis (JE) neutralizing antibody in healthy people.

Methods: Xinyang and Luoyang is the two cities in Henan Province. In 2010, healthy people of these two cities were selected by random sampling method to eight age groups: less than one year old, 1 -2 years old, 3 -4, 5 -6, 7 -14, 15 -19, 20 -59,and above 60 years old, their blood specimens were collected in May before JE infection and in November after JE infection, then followed with epidemiological investigation for JE neutralizing antibody by MCPENT.
