Advances in nanotechnology are able to open up new prospects for catalysis, particularly through the development of catalytic systems featuring precisely controlled size and distribution of metal nanoparticles. In this study, we prepared a model catalytic system, where monodisperse Pt nanoparticles, approximately 8 nm in size, were uniformly distributed onto CeO and SiO/Si substrates block copolymer (BCP) nanopatterning. To address the validity of these catalysts, we conducted a case study on CO oxidation in a continuous flow reactor, investigated the reaction kinetics, and compared our observations with those reported in the literature.

Excitons in semiconductors and molecules are widely utilized in photovoltaics and optoelectronics, and high-temperature coherent quantum states of excitons can be realized in artificial electron-hole bilayers and an exotic material of an excitonic insulator (EI). Here, we investigate the band gap evolution of a putative high-temperature EI TaNiSe upon surface doing by alkali adsorbates with angle-resolved photoemission and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The conduction band of TaNiSe is filled by the charge transfer from alkali adsorbates, and the band gap decreases drastically upon the increase of metallic electron density.

For stable lithium deposition without dendrites, three-dimensional (3D) porous structure has been intensively investigated. Here, we report the use of carbon-doped graphitic carbon nitride (C-doped g-CN) microspheres as a 3D host for lithium to suppress dendrite formation, which is crucial for stable lithium deposition. The results of a tuberculosis (TB) active case finding (ACF) program, implemented by International Care Ministries (ICM) in the Philippines, were examined to understand how the presence of physical symptoms might influence ACF outcomes among extreme low-income Filipinos. A precise control of the size, density, and distribution of metal nanoparticles dispersed on functional oxide supports is critical for promoting catalytic activity and stability in renewable energy and catalysis devices. Here, we measure the growth kinetics of individual Co particles ex-solved on SrTiCoO polycrystalline thin films under a high vacuum, and at various temperatures and grain sizes using in situ transmission electron microscopy. The ex-solution preferentially occurs at grain boundaries and corners which appear essential for controlling particle density and distribution, and enabling low temperature ex-solution.
