[Emphysematous pyelonephritis: case of successful conservative treatment].

Emphysematous pyelonephritis is rare form of pyelonephritis, which has mortality of nearly 80%. Conservative treatment can be successful in less than 30% of cases. Currently, in the guidelines there is no standard approach to conservative and surgical treatment of this entity.

[Learning curve of percutaneous nephrolithotripsy: how to achieve perfection?].

Purpose: to determine the characteristics of the surgeon training curve in the development of percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PN).

Materials And Methods: The first 125 PNs performed by one team of surgeons were investigated. In chronological order, five groups of 25 operations were formed.

[Use of cernilton in the therapy of prostatic adenoma and chronic prostatitis].

Cernilton is a phytodrug containing pollen extract. It has antiandrogenic and anti-inflammatory effects influencing alpha1-adrenoblockers located in the zone of the detrusor and urethra. A conservative therapy with cernilton was given to 72 patients with chronic prostatitis and prostatic adenoma of stage I-II.

Josephson behavior of phase-slip lines in wide superconducting strips.

Phase-slip lines can be viewed as dynamically created Josephson junctions in a homogeneous superconducting film. In contrast to phase-slip centers, phase-slip lines occur in wide superconducting strips, where the order parameter may vary in two dimensions. We investigated phase-slip lines in two different materials using several methods.

Saccadic dysmetria and adaptation after lesions of the cerebellar cortex.

We studied the effects of small lesions of the oculomotor vermis of the cerebellar cortex on the ability of monkeys to execute and adapt saccadic eye movements. For saccades in one horizontal direction, the lesions led to an initial gross hypometria and a permanent abolition of the capacity for rapid adaptation. Mean saccade amplitude recovered from the initial hypometria, although variability remained high.

Shift of visual fixation dependent on background illumination.

Visual fixation, the act of maintaining the eyes directed toward a location of interest, is a highly skilled behavior necessary for high-level vision in primates. In spite of its significance, visual fixation is not well understood; it is not even clear what attributes of the visual input are used to control fixation. Here we show, in four Macaca fascicularis monkeys, that the position the eyes assume during fixation depends on the luminance of the background.

[Tuberculosis thanatogenesis and pathoanatomy of caseous pneumonia].

Tuberculosis thanatogenesis of today has been studied on autopsy and operative material. Pathoanatomy and mechanism of development of caseous pneumonia have been investigated: types of tissue reactions and role of terminal and respiratory bronchioles in the development of caseous pneumonia are shown and early phases of pathological changes of the connective tissue and interstitium (acute mesenchymopathy) distinguished. Caseous pneumonia has been distinguished for the first time.

[Changes in the fibronectin level of the blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in experimental tuberculosis in guinea pigs].

The study was made of 64 guinea pigs with induced generalized tuberculosis which underwent no treatment, 60 infected animals receiving chemotherapy 2 weeks after the inoculation and 16 healthy animals. Citrate plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid of all the animals was examined for fibronectin (FN) concentrations using ELISA. The measurements were made 1 week, 1 and 2 months following inoculation and 2 weeks, 1.

[Ways of increasing the effectiveness of surgical treatment of patients with chronic empyema].

A dynamic morphologic examination and surgical treatment analysis in connection with 184 patients with chronic empyema of the chest appeared to be the basis to refer to it as an independent form of pleuropulmonary pathology with a typical undulatory clinical course and morphologic picture. The disease is evolving progressively, with predominant hyperplastic processes in the changed pleura leaves at the initial, and as a rule lengthy stage in relation to a stable course, accompanied by subsequent aggravation and easing of the process in addition to the development of complications. Depending on the clinical course stage, a surgical treatment tactics is elaborated together with the use of different surgical methods.

[Structure of thromboembolic complications (based on prosection data of the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the I. M. Sechenov I Moscow Medical Institute from 1962 to 1979)].

Based on the study of the materials of 13,000 autopsies made in 1962--1979 at the Pathology Department of the Chair of Pathological Anatomy of the I. M. Sechenov First Medical Institute, an increase in the rate of thromboembolic complications (TEC) was established predominantly in diseases of the cardiovascular system (atherosclerosis, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, rheumatic disease, protracted bacterial endocarditis).

[New method of differential histological diagnosis of different forms of amyloidosis].

A new method for morphological diagnosis of various forms of amyloidosis based on the use of a hot buffered hexamine-silver solution is suggested. Its potentials are illustrated on 37 cases of primary, hereditary, and secondary human amyloidosis as well as experimental amyloidosis. The proposed method permits morphological differential diagnosis of amyloidosis in those cases where other methods failed to do it.
