Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes are considered clinically beneficial in breast cancer, but the significance of natural killer (NK) cells is less well characterized. As increasing evidence has demonstrated that the spatial organization of immune cells in tumor microenvironments is a significant parameter for impacting disease progression as well as therapeutic responses, an improved understanding of tumor-infiltrating NK cells and their location within tumor contextures is needed to improve the design of effective NK cell-based therapies. In this study, we developed a multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC) antibody panel designed to quantitatively interrogate leukocyte lineages, focusing on NK cells and their phenotypes, in two independent breast cancer patient cohorts (n = 26 and n = 30).

Patients with metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma survive longer if disease spreads to the lung but not the liver. Here we generated overlapping, multi-omic datasets to identify molecular and cellular features that distinguish patients whose disease develops liver metastasis (liver cohort) from those whose disease develops lung metastasis without liver metastases (lung cohort). Lung cohort patients survived longer than liver cohort patients, despite sharing the same tumor subtype.

Dipeptides were constructed using hydrophobic amino acid residues following AMP prediction. After that Boc-modification was performed on the screened peptides and finally Boc-Phe-Trp-OMe and Boc-Trp-Trp-OMe were synthesized. Even though no inhibition zones were observed in agar well diffusion assays, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) analysis revealed anti-bacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with MIC ranging from 230 to 400 μg/mL.

The study involves development of a green biorefinery process for obtaining fucoidan, laminarin, mannitol, alginate and protein from dry and fresh Fucus vesiculosus and Ascophyllum nodosum using hydrochloric acid and a green extraction solvent. After the extraction of fucoidan which was the targeted biomolecule, an extract and by-product (residual biomass) were obtained. The extract was passed through an ultrafiltration membrane, where fucoidan was obtained in the ultrafiltration retentate while ultrafiltration permeate was analysed for laminarin and mannitol.
