Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with relapsing nature. Estimates are that approximately 2-3% of the world's population suffers from this disease. More severe forms of psoriasis are conditions of high inflammation, which is confirmed by the clinical picture and numerous inflammatory parameters such as C-reactive protein (CRP), cytokines and homocysteine, which vary with disease activity.

Melanoma is one of the most malignant cancers, and the global incidence of cutaneous melanoma is increasing. While melanomas are highly prone to metastasize if diagnosed late, early detection and treatment significantly reduce the risk of mortality. Identifying patients at higher risk of metastasis, who might benefit from early adjuvant therapies, is particularly important, especially with the advent of new melanoma treatments.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between psoriasis severity and clinical features of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in a real-world clinical setting, as previous connections between the two have been unclear.
  • Seventy-six adult patients with both psoriasis and PsA were assessed for various clinical measures, including joint tenderness, swelling, and enthesitis, using standard evaluation metrics.
  • The results showed no significant link between psoriasis severity (PASI) and most PsA variables, except a moderate correlation with enthesitis, suggesting that higher psoriasis severity may indicate more enthesitis presence, especially in older patients.

  • In melanomas, BRAF gene mutations are common early events, and this study aimed to compare their frequency in dysplastic nevi (ND) and melanomas in situ (MIS) while examining correlations with clinical factors.
  • A total of 175 patients were analyzed, revealing a significant correlation between BRAF mutations and the diagnosis of MIS, while patients with lentigo maligna (LM) had fewer mutations compared to those with ND and MIS.
  • The study concluded that while BRAF mutations are essential in ND, they alone are insufficient to trigger melanoma development, enhancing understanding of melanoma's etiology and the role of ND as potential precursors.

A collaboration of multidisciplinary experts from the European Association of Dermato-Oncology, the European Dermatology Forum, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, and the European Union of Medical Specialists was formed to develop European recommendations on AK diagnosis and treatment, based on current literature and expert consensus. This guideline addresses the epidemiology, diagnostics, risk stratification and treatments in immunocompetent as well as immunosuppressed patients. Actinic keratoses (AK) are potential precursors of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and display typical histopathologic and immunohistochemical features of this malignancy in an early stage.

Worldwide studies continuously confirm that vaccination is a safe and effective method of combating various infectious diseases and a key component of global public health programs. However, the vaccination status of a population is often lower than needed to achieve collective immunity. A key reason that affects lower vaccination coverage is vaccine hesitancy, identified as one of the ten greatest threats to global public health.

(1) Background: Chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) has been linked to the dysbiosis of the gut microbiota. Furthermore, various studies have highlighted the anti-inflammatory properties of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), whose production is primarily regulated by the gut microbiota. However, only a few studies have investigated the role of major SCFA producers, such as , in skin inflammatory diseases.

Introduction: The aim of this article was to investigate the impact of chronic antithrombotic therapy (AT) use on the time of detection of bladder cancer, assuming that patients taking AT experience episodes of macroscopic hematuria earlier, and therefore have a more favorable histopathological grade and stage, as well as a smaller number and size of tumors compared to patients not taking AT.

Material And Methods: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted, including 247 patients who underwent bladder cancer surgery for the first time at our institution during the three-year period (2019-2021) and who experienced macroscopic hematuria.

Results: A lower frequency of high-grade bladder cancer (40.

Article Synopsis
  • - Darier disease (DD) is a rare genetic skin disorder caused by mutations in the ATP2A2 gene, characterized by skin lesions, nail abnormalities, and mucosal changes.
  • - A case study of a 40-year-old woman revealed pruritic skin lesions concentrated on one side of her body, leading to a diagnosis of localized segmental DD after a biopsy showed characteristic cell changes.
  • - The condition typically appears between ages 6 and 20 and presents with crusty, itchy papules; it results from calcium imbalance and loss of cell adhesion due to impaired ATP2A2 gene function.

The year 2020 has been marked by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by an RNA virus called SARS-COV2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus). The fight against this epidemic has become the center of our daily clinical practice as well as of our private lives, in which avoiding infection has become one of our most important goals. Even though COVID-19 is a potentially lethal disease, especially for the elderly and people with chronic diseases, it did not cause all the other life-threatening diseases to vanish.
