Using zirconium tetrachloride as a metal source and tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin as a ligand and by in situ introducing octadecylphosphonic acid (OPA), three hydrophobic porphyrin zirconium metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different structural topologies were constructed, where these MOFs are labeled as OPA@PCN-222, OPA@PCN-223, and OPA@PCN-224. Compared with the original Zr-MOFs without the modification of OPA, the modified porphyrin Zr-MOFs show excellent hydrophobic properties and can maintain excellent stability in a long-term humidity environment. Meanwhile, OPA@PCN-222, OPA@PCN-223, and OPA@PCN-224 exhibit wide absorption of visible light and steadfast and expeditious photocurrent response by leveraging the properties of porphyrin ligands.

This study aimed to employ a comprehensive data screening strategy to identify the chromones and coumarins present in Saposhnikovia divaricata (SD). Initially, the five-point mass defect filter (MDF) method was utilized to screen the respective three subclasses of chromones and coumarins for MS. In comparison to the traditional MDF method, the number of interference peaks was reduced from 3462 to 1053, representing a decrease of 69.

It has been widely accepted that iron plays an important role in stimulating the activity of anammox bacteria, which contain many iron clusters for electron transport in cells. However, whether anammox bacteria could directly use and how to uptake Fe(III) have been long-time ignored. Here, we found that micrometer-scale magnetite with the size of 10-20 μm significantly promoted the anammox bacterial activity by iron core and iron uptake.

Nitrogen (N) deposition and carbon (C) addition significantly influence the dynamics of plant-microbe interactions, particularly altering the symbiotic relationship between plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). However, the effects and underlying mechanisms of labile C input on the relationship between AMF and various plant species in a nitrogen-enriched environment remain a knowledge gap. A seven-year field experiment was conducted to examine how six levels of N and three levels of labile C addition impact AMF colonization in four key plant species: (Trin.

The creation of positively charged active sites is crucial for enhancing the adsorption of negatively charged hydroxide ions, thereby improving the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER). We engineered LaPO/Fe(PO) heterojunctions with a low flat-band potential, facilitating interfacial charge transfer and generation of positively charged holes, resulting in a highly active and stable OER catalyst at 500 mA cm.

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by inflammation of the pancreas, which can lead to complications such as pancreatic necrosis. The modified computed tomography severity index (MCTSI) is a widely used tool for assessing the severity of AP, particularly the extent of pancreatic necrosis. The accurate and timely assessment of the necrosis volume is crucial in guiding treatment decisions and improving patient outcomes.

Rationale: Astragali radix-Salvia miltiorrhiza (AR-SM) is an herb pair with good therapeutic effects and is widely used. In this study, the in vitro and in vivo components of AR-SM were quickly classified and identified based on UHPLC-orbital mass spectrometry. This provided a basis for clarifying the bioactive substances after compatibility of AR and SM.

Viruses, known for causing widespread biological harm and even extinction, pose significant challenges to public health. Virus detection is crucial for accurate disease diagnosis and preventing the spread of infections. Recently, the outstanding analytical performance of CRISPR/Cas biosensors has shown great potential and they have been considered as augmenting methods for reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), which was the gold standard for nucleic acid detection.

Background: The antibiotic resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) is increasingly severe in bronchiectasis patients. However, there is currently a lack of research on the clinical outcomes of carbapenem-resistant PA (CRPA) isolation in hospitalized exacerbations of bronchiectasis (HEB) patients. We investigated the incidence, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of PA and CRPA isolation in HEB patients.

During viral infections, autophagy functions as a cell-intrinsic defense mechanism by facilitating the delivery of virions or viral components to the endosomal/lysosomal pathway for degradation. In this study, we report that internalized African swine fever virus (ASFV) virions enter autolysosomes during the early phase of viral infection. Autophagy selectively targets the major capsid protein p72 within the ASFV virion.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have key roles in the pathological processes of neuropathic pain. Here, our aim was to elucidate the function of miR-200a-3p as well as its related regulatory mechanism in neuropathic pain. An animal model of neuropathic pain was established by chronic constriction injury (CCI) induction.

Article Synopsis
  • Photothermal therapy (PTT) shows promise in combating cancer but faces challenges, including inflammation and recurrence risks; combining PTT with anti-inflammatory treatments may improve its effectiveness.
  • The study developed mesoporous dopamine nanoparticles (MAGM NPs) using Gd, arginine, and the anti-inflammatory drug meloxicam, aiming to enhance anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects while enabling MRI imaging.
  • Test results on a mouse model of breast cancer revealed that MAGM NPs improved targeted anticancer effects under MRI guidance, while also boosting photothermal efficiency and reducing inflammation.

Background: Currently, there is a lack of research on multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDR-PA) isolation in bronchiectasis-related hemoptysis. The aim of this study to analyze the risk factors for recurrent hemoptysis following bronchial artery embolization (BAE) and compare the recurrent hemoptysis-free rates between MDR-PA, non-MDR-PA, and non-PA isolation.

Methods: A retrospective study was performed of patients diagnosed with idiopathic bronchiectasis-related recurrent hemoptysis who underwent BAE at an university-affiliated hospital.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) have attracted extensive attention due to their toxic effects on human health and biological systems as plasticizers and flame retardants. This study focused on exploring a green approach to get toxicity mechanisms that used less solvents or organisms. The toxicity values of selected organophosphate esters including tri (2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP), tri (1, 3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (TDCP), tripropyl phosphate (TPrP), tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP), and tritolyl Phosphate (TCrP) to Photobacterium phosphoreum were determined.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a prevalent chronic disease, yet its exact mechanisms and effective treatments remain elusive. Nuclear receptor subfamily 5 group A member 2 (NR5A2), a transcription factor closely associated with cholesterol metabolism in the liver, has been hindered from comprehensive investigation due to the lethality of NR5A2 loss in cell lines and animal models. To elucidate the role of NR5A2 in NASH, we generated hepatocyte-specific knockout mice for Nr5a2 (Nr5a2) and examined their liver morphology across different age groups under a regular diet.
