Neck circumference (NC) is a predictive measure for the diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome (MS). The aim of the present study was to establish cutoff points for NC as a predictor of the presence of MS in Brazilian rural workers, based on the MS components according to the IDF and NCEP-ATP III criteria. This is a cross-sectional study carried out with rural workers in the municipality of Santa Maria de Jetibá, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil.

The lack of synthesized information regarding biodiversity is a major problem among researchers, leading to a pervasive cycle where ecologists make field campaigns to collect information that already exists and yet has not been made available for a broader audience. This problem leads to long-lasting effects in public policies such as spending money multiple times to conduct similar studies in the same area. We aim to identify this knowledge gap by synthesizing information available regarding two Brazilian long-term biodiversity programs and the metadata generated by them.

We describe the composition of endoparasites associated with leaf litter anurans from an Atlantic Forest area, in southeastern Brazil. We tested if body size, sex, and reproductive modes of anuran hosts influence endoparasite abundance and richness. We sampled 583 individuals from 11 anuran species and recorded 1,600 helminths from 14 taxa.

We conducted a study on the effects of fire on Rhamnidium elaeocarpum, a widely distributed woody species found in the Pantanal wetlands, using LC-MS metabolomics, total phenolic and tannin content analysis, and thermogravimetric behavior. We sampled individuals from four groups: No Fire, Fire 2019, Fire 2020, and APD 20 (individuals whose aerial parts had died during the 2020 fire event). Para comprender mejor los factores que influyen en la salud y el bienestar de los inmigrantes dominicanos, exploramos las formas en que la inmigración influye en las prácticas culturales, el comportamiento de salud y la salud. Los inmigrantes dominicanos (n = 42) participaron en cinco discusiones grupales reflexivas y no estructuradas y (n = 5) participaron en un grupo de fotovoz intergeneracional. La pérdida del contexto familiar y social en el que tradicionalmente se llevan a cabo las prácticas dietéticas dominicanas fue un tema destacado.

Effect of educational intervention for compliance of school adolescents with the human papillomavirus vaccine.

Objective: to assess the effects of "Piss off, HPV!", an educational intervention to increase adolescents' knowledge, attitude and compliance with human papillomavirus vaccination.

Method: a randomized clinical trial by cluster, carried out in six schools in two municipalities in Ceará, with 238 girls. The control group (n = 120) received routine instructions, and the intervention group (n = 118), printed message cards about the quadrivalent HPV vaccine.
